Mid Week Reflection

Having a short work doesn’t mean much considering it seems so long.I still have a lot to do this week. They include doctor’s appointments, the scholarship presentation, and more shopping next weekend, and of course several birthdays.
The new window is going to be put in tomorrow morning.BIL will be here to supervise the job.He says he trust the guy implicitly. So I have no worries about that.
I am wondering when the Guy we had inspect the house a while back hasn’t called maybe I should be calling him?I guess I can wait until Liz gets home from NJ.
Sis went to NJ this morning via train. She was already there by Lunchtime (noonish) and was settling in before going to the wake. She needed to rest and then dress for it.We spoke via text just about then.It was just about then we heard from Jim.He wasn’t sure he would make it to the wake after all because he had to work late. This doesn’t bode well for his visit here.I had this nagging feeling he wouldn’t be coming after all.
The Memorial Day holida…

A Gorgeous Day

It is absolutely a gorgeous day today!  For how long is not clear.  I have seen some weather headlines that say it will get worse (stormy weather).  Apparently we are to get the effects of Tropical Storm Bonnie tomorrow.  Yeah that’s what I want be out shopping in a tropical storm.
I am expecting New Lawn Guy to come today and work on removing the stones from the patio and start reseeding that and the space in front of the house.  He said he would be here by 10:30.  I am going to get the new sprinkler before that.
The rest of the day will be fairly quiet again (I actually love weekends like this) and then I will go to the bingo and then come home and have dinner.

I was so tired yesterday

I was so tired that I nearly fell asleep a few times at my desk.I also said things that shouldn’t have been said (I actually hurt Guardian Angel/gargoyles feelings) and I had to apologize but I just need to “hold my counsel” as Mom would say over the years.
I have decided that I won’t be going to Aunt S’s funeral and wake which is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. When I looked for hotels there didn’t seem to be any but when I looked at an email after chatting with Liz about arrangements there are a number of them. The reason basically is I would have to choose either the wake or the service and not include the burial which is close to an hour further away. Liz offered to share a room which she rarely does.I also have a doctor’s appointment and the other scholarship presentation to make.
Jim is going to make it to the wake at least and all of us will split the cost on flowers. He wasn’t sure about the funeral but he hasn’t mentioned about coming up here for the scholarship presentation…

Thankful THursday

1.            I am thankful for my family warts and all.
2.            I am thankful for my friends.
3.            I am thankful for my neighbors
4.            I am thankful for my job and co-workers who are my extended family
5.            I am thankful for the Medical profession who are taking care of my health.
6.            I am thankful for the organizations I am a part of that keep me busy.
7.            I am thankful for the weather
8.            I am thankful for my home.
9              I am thankful for my kitties.

We got word late yesterday afternoon that one of my Aunt’s passed away.  She was married to my Mom’s older Brother and was not well.  My Cousin Lee is heartbroken.  I don’t know the arrangements yet but once his sister comes in tomorrow from Florida I am sure they will deal with all that.  I don’t know if I can go to NJ for the services or not.
It has been nearly a week now that Mama R and Papa M have left for NC.  They arrived safely sometime last Friday and have been set…

Really?

Today would be the day I arrive five to ten minutes late! Not a good way to start the day and it is real important that I don’t do this.  Considering the atmosphere around here.  They are clamping down on the unscheduled absences and tardiness and anything else.  That could be Sis’s concern but I just have to tell her that most of the time I take off is fine as long as it’s already scheduled.
I was under this misconception today since Yale had the graduation that traffic into the city would be light.  Man was I wrong.  There was still traffic but not to the extent as it was.  Again it also all depends on what time I leave the house.  I actually do this every year.  It is not like the city will come to a complete a total desertion.  There will still be visitors and tourists, concerts, sporting events and of course the various holidays. I am also pretty sure the unions will be doing marches and stuff like that throughout the city.
For some reason the insurance company returned my check…

Mid Week Reflection

Monday I met with my new landscaper and he can do the things that Lawn Guy Bob can do for almost half the price. So Lawn Guy Bob is out as of Monday. He was very understanding and says I can call him back if it doesn’t go well (I told him I was having a nephew do the work).Even though he was an hour late for the meeting.
I am in the process of changing oil companies and going with my Sister’s suggestion. The Company I have now has a service Contract that is going $300 and change while the other one is like 1/3 of the price.I will have to make those calls today as they were closed at 4 yesterday.
The DTC meeting was moved this week for a convention at City Hall.I just was too tired so I didn’t go. I hope it went well.
Work went well.Monday was busy as I had gone in late because of my dentist appointment that morning.I was afraid that I wouldn’t have a parking spot because of the Yale graduation but I was wrong.Every year I think we will have a hectic traffic but it wasn’t bad.Even though the…

A Quiet Sunday Morning-Not

The kitties were running around here and at one point Tiger started hissing at Sky. I think they were pretty hungry because they were also trying to get me up.When I went to feed them they wouldn’t eat the canned food. They did the same thing yesterday. Now they are quiet considering I opened the cellar door for them to come and go as they please.
It is gray and cloudy and started raining about an hour ago. I have a feeling it never rained last night. So it might be a rainy Sunday today. That’s okay as I don’t have much to do today.
Oh I talked with Jim via text yesterday and I am a little annoyed. He can’t make it this Wednesday for the first HS Scholarship presentation because he has to work.I could have sworn he said he was going to make it for this one and the next one.Now it’s only the one on June 1st.Really?Now Liz is checking her schedule to see if she can make it.
I got messages from Dr. T about the next meeting. It will be the final meeting of the year and it will include officer’s …

Saturday Doings

It was a quiet morning for the most part.I woke up early enough to wait for the peapod delivery that came just at 7 and I was putting them away ten minutes later. The kitties disappeared as usual until I went back to bed for a couple of hours.
Today is really turning into a lazy and sleepy day.Between watching the latest NCIS marathon, a little laundry and a shower I haven’t done much.I actually am feeling pretty tired.I don’t know if it was because of the semi busy week I had or just the day.
The sun was out for a couple of hours this morning but it got much cooler and cloudier by lunchtime.I was expecting it to start raining like it originally predicted but when I talked with neighbor Don he said it won’t be until later tonight.I love rainy Saturday nights.
I heard from Mama R and Papa M yesterday well maybe just Mama they have arrived in NC safely around mid-afternoon.Now the next step is to unpack and settle in.Mama kept saying that it will take at least a year for them to unpack.Som…

Commencement Weekend

Commencement week has finally arrived and will begin Sunday on the Old Campus with Yale College Class Day.  I always wondered what the difference was between the two activities and now that I know it is basically what high schools have.  All the awards and presentations over the years and to celebrate underclassman.  Well maybe not the exact same way high schools do.  Ambassador Sara Power will be the speaker at Class Day.  In the small blurb in the email we got yesterday she is a Yale Graduate and is a member of President Obama’s cabinet. After the Commencement Alumni Weekend begins a couple of days after that.  I suspect we will see an increased volume of traffic and people that week not so much during the commencement since it will be closer to the city.  OF course if one tends to go out at lunch time they may get to see some activity but collectively we don’t get much around here. Yesterday was pretty good.  Mama R came around 8 and stayed until about 9.  She brought stuff she wasn’…

Mid Week Reflection

It’s happening again. Not enough time in the day to write in my blogs.Yet I have time to surf the net for the entertainment, and fandom news that I am interested in.For example Tuesday was the Season finale of NCIS and the final episode of Anthony DiNozzo. For Months when we heard the news (and I am not real pleased at the way it was released) there was the normal fighting and mudslinging and accusations and some really outrageous fan fueled fantasies as to how he was leaving. Unfortunately, the writers and TPTB went there (why must they (TPTB) have the lead character or in MW case second Lead in a TV show be a single Dad and unknown parent.
Enough of the Entertainment rant. Now to what’s really important. It’s been incredibly windy and chilly since the weekend.I am surprised I haven’t gotten sick yet but maybe I won’t.WE may be getting some rain again but not for long. The days ahead may be getting into the 70’s.Although that doesn’t mean it won’t rain.Speaking of rain did you see the pic…

Saturday Doings

What did I do today?Barely anything.I woke up really early but didn’t get up until 5:30 and fed the cats.I took the opportunity to clean out the litterbox in the downstairs bathroom.I opened the windows well most of the windows.
I stopped by Neighbor Chris’s house to they had a tag sale going on and I got to see his Mom whom I haven’t seen since her mother died. She looks so much like Marion did.I spent a good deal of time there.
WE noticed a frontier man walking through to the yard I went looking into it and found out it was the son of the woman who lived in the refurbished house. He was there to look at couple of old Telephone poles one is in the corner of the yard. It’s coming down eventually. It is in a really odd place.Dan I chatted for a bit and talked about the neighborhood and stuff like that.He had to go finish work and I chatted with the Chris and Chris again.
Eventually I came back and restacked the bulk trash pile that someone was so kind to go through and pick out stuff. The toa…

My Nephews came over to move my old furniture to the front of the house for the bulk pick up next week.  It was one of my nephew’s first visit since my Mother passed and he felt bad about it.    It was great to see them.  Their Mother called me the next day to see if they came and did it.
This coming week is going to be tough.  My friends Mike and Roberta will be leaving next Thursday for NC.  I get to see Roberta one more time on Monday for our club’s Creative Writing P…

Mid Week Reflection

Have had a hard time finding time to write in the last few days.  I have either been too busy, too tired, you name it-it’s been one thing or another.  I am not sure this week will be conducive to writing much either. Mother’s Day weekend was a rainy one for most of the weekend.  My Lawyer and his contractor came over to take a look (not really inspect-actually it is that) and my sister and I spent a good two hours picking some stuff up at Lowes.  We had lunch together and then I came home and the rest of the night I was sick. Mother’s Day was quiet until I had dinner with Liz and her family.  I did get a chance to talk to my brother earlier in the day and then at night was basically getting ready for the week.  I went to bed fairly early too. Monday was our woman’s club dinner/meeting as we said our final goodbyes to Roberta.  I gave a speech and the two of us were crying.  As we were leaving JV didn’t see us and backed his truck into my car.  We have to make arrangements to have him pul…

Saturday doings

The one morning I was expecting Peapod to come early It didn’t happen.I scheduled a delivery between 6 and 8 so that I could have it put all away before Lawyer Bob and company arrived. It came just about 8 and of course it was put away in time.
I tried to pick up more stuff here and there but the rest is just enough.I couldn’t nor would I do anymore. If no one liked it tough.I am not moving right now so it doesn’t matter.I did open some windows to air out the house so was rather cold.
Everyone arrived around 9 and we shortly after that we started on the “tour”.First off they wanted smoke and CO2 detectors by the end of the day. They said the railings, would be done.He would take care of a wire in the dryer leading downstairs. They did recommend a security service as well.
They left a couple of hours later and Liz checked out the puddling of the refrigerator.I think I need to clean out more of it myself. There is a few things I need to do. I took out more stuff from the freezer downstairs. That…

What a Day

It was cold damp all day and raining I am sure.  It didn’t start to rain until I left for home after the rally.
I was keeping busy with the refund checks for most of the day and picked up the mail at one point but the mail volume was low and we didn’t get a lot of NEMG and I was reminded that it will be gone eventually since we won’t have a contract with them by the fall.  This will open things up for me I am thinking.
For lunch I had a steak fajita wrap in honor of Cinco de Mayo.  It was very good but it was also the third or fourth time I had ordered lunch this week.  I was feeling I wasn’t doing well with the budget when in fact I really am.  I almost had dinner at Lucky Dragon until they screwed up the order.  I will not be going there again.  When she took my order she rushed me off the phone without confirming what I had.  When I arrived there tonight she had an extra thing and she got it all wrong.  I finally said cancel the order and left but not before I turned as said I was co…

I heard from Jim the other day says he wasn’t feeling well.  I checked in with him the next day and he was feeling better.  He must not have been feeling well during the weekend after I talked with him.  He has been visiting a dying friend in the hospital for several weeks (when he didn’t come to visit me) and I think it has taken a toll.  I just hope he can make the trip up for the scholarship presentation at the end of the month.
My sister has been great.  She and Nelson…

miserable day

I was a couple of minutes late for work today and about five minutes after that we got word there was a Human Resources meeting.  Luckily it wasn’t just for me but it was worrisome because it was about Lay-offs.  I made a couple of mistakes while inputting information for the refund checks.   It was basically a follow up and their seeking “help” from us and to update. For the first time in many months there were only two of us in the aisle and the supervisor.  It is an issue for the management as well.  It's one of many things that is a concern for them.  By 3:15 I was the only one in the aisle.  It was very weird.   In my last entry I mentioned my Alma Maters.  I received an email from the President of Endicott College in Beverly MA on the heels of the tragic accident of a student who was killed.  Sadly he was the passenger and the driver it was drunk driving and in the email President gave high praises to the Endicott community coming together in strength.  Grief counselors were t…

Monday Musings

For the Second day in a row and the second day of May 2016 it is still very raw out and not very comfortable. In New Haven it was closer to 50 degrees and it was mid 40’s in Milford.I don’t remember what kind of weather we had last year or in years past at this time but when you think of the month of May you think of sunny and warm days.Well it will kick in next weekend from what I read.

My Sunday was a little lazy in the morning.  I did pepper it with a little bit of cleaning the old bed room.  Still have more to do and probably will do it over the next few days.  In the afternoon I went to bingo and had a good session despite a few of the residents who continue to talk as others are checking their winning card.
After bingo I spent about an hour with Liz and Nelson.  I had given her all the catalogs that came to the house in the mail over the last couple of weeks and we went through them and I took back a few coupons.  I also admired her brand new stackable Kenmore Washer and Dryer an…
