The rest of my day

As I sit here trying to decompress from Manic Monday I can actually say it was a pretty good day. There were over three hundred pieces of mail from the Post office and very little had to be sent back. There were a few things that have to be readdressed but that can be done tomorrow. I still have to finish the pile of lockbox and then sort and deliver but again that can be done tomorrow as I plan on getting into work early.

Today I did a phone survey/interview from a fellow co-worker Kelly P who works in Registration. It was a five question survey on how to make the work place better. I mentioned not having bulk mailings such as the CT medical society (or things of that nature sent to the office but the MD’s homes). When changes are implanted and asked to be relayed to staff members it should be done. I also made mention that peoples attitudes need to be looked at. I let a few people know including Elia V who is a union steward/organizer. She said not to worry about what was said as I was giving an opinion.

I had a late lunch today and I decided I would have the Angus Cheeseburger and it was delicious. The fries were really crispy and of course the avocados made it really good. I had two sodas (cream soda). Even though I had that late my dinner was still at 5 as I was hungry. It was sweet Onion Teriyaki Chicken from Subway. I ate it before starting the calls.

I managed to leave the office before 4 and got to the car shortly after that. I was surprised I made it to Internal Medicine by 25 after 4. The INR/Coumadin check time was quick. The vitals were good and the Coumadin level was higher than it really should be. I was still thrilled with it. I go back next Monday same time.

After that I went to subway for my dinner and then to headquarters. M&T were there and some people that I met last week. I even got to see some fellow DTC folks and some who had resigned from that as well. Tonight’s phone session was a little annoying (I know who wants to get political phone calls during their dinner time). Some of these people were downright rude. I worked the phones until 7:15. My phone battery was low so while it was charging I borrowed both M&T’s. Mom called TM to find out where we were but someone told her it was Gloria’s. I personally think she misunderstood or didn’t hear it correctly. She ended up going to Bridges for her meeting.

When I got home I had some ice cream and channel surfed for a bit. I was so not interested in what was on. Nothing at all interested me in this so I came upstairs and have been on line for the most part.

Now I am going to bed… have a great night.

Jim's Birthday

Today is/was Jim’s 58th Birthday. Unfortunately I haven’t done anything for it. No e-card, no snail mail card, and of course no phone call. I am not sure what I feel but I will send him something maybe tomorrow. I have no idea if Mom did or not. It has been quite a hectic couple of weeks for her and she is concerned and a little bit annoyed with him with his choices. Yes I know it’s his choice but she is a Mom and is worried about him.

Last night was awesome. Before I left work we picked our secret Santa and I got Lucinda G. Unfortunately I have to guess at what she wants because she didn’t write it on the list. We were not supposed to tell anyone but I managed to tell Cami and Liz. They rolled their eyes.

When I left it was shortly before 4 but I managed to get to the polling place before my appointed time and got in and got to vote. I personally didn’t have any problems but I would later find out that there was a fire alarm that morning. There was one while I was there as well. I would later find out that some ballots from Fairfield showed up at our polling place as well. I am not sure how that was cleared up but I am sure it was.

I called Liz around 5 or so and told her about the fire alarm and she told me how it was at her polling place (apparently chaotic). After my stint I went directly to the headquarters.

There weren’t that many people there at first. Technicians setting up the Satellite feed for Cablevision 12 and MZ who was having dinner. I had a sandwich and water. It was only the first of many things I would eat during the night.

As 7 pm approached more and more people came in and then it got crowded. I had some lovely chats with many people. Around 8 the final numbers were starting to come in and then I think by 9 the victory speeches were made and of course we found out that President-Elect Obama had won the election.

It was nearly 9:30 when I left. My arms and legs were hurting immensely. I knew I had too much to eat and was glad I was going home. When I came home I turned on the TV and did some channel surfing. I decided to come upstairs and get ready for bed.

I had been dozing when I heard noises. It was after 1 and mom was home. She was getting into her pajamas and was rushing so she wouldn’t burn the tea kettle out in the kitchen. I went back to bed and fell asleep until 5 this morning.

Today was pretty good. Some people talked about the election and I told them about the bizarre occurrences at the polling place. I probably shouldn’t have done that but I really didn’t see anything wrong with it.

Work over all went very well. I finished sorting and delivering yesterday’s mail and then worked on today’s and managed to finish everything on my desk by 2:30. When it was all done I pulled EOB’s with Liz.

It started raining when I left the office. I got home by 4:30 and while Mom cooked dinner I relaxed. We had dinner around 5. It was leftovers and they were delicious. We had to eat quickly because we were needed to help clean up headquarters.

We got there and found that most of the work had already been done by (someone else.) Mike and Tessa had been there and said it was generally already done and they were just getting some of their stuff they contributed/loaned. We were not there long and we were back home by 7:30 I think.

Since we have been home I had emptied the dryer, taken a bath, and watched TV. The Mummy Returns is on FX Network tonight but I am not really feeling that well so I am going to bed.

Sleepless Night

It is after 2 a.m. Monday Morning. I have been up a few times since my last entry. The reason is because I wasn’t feeling well. I had what I believe to be heartburn (and felt like I was going to yak) and the runs. I wasn’t sure if the smell of the Ben Gay was causing me to feel sick but the other stuff has pretty much stopped.

Mom must have woken up because her light is out and has been since 11:30 last night. I hope she is feeling better. Liz seems to think she needs another blood transfusion. She is really pissing me off about this. It seems like she is hoping that this is the problem and not accepting it could be mom’s Medication.

Well I better get back to bed. I am going to find music to listen to. I don’t feel like listening to the BBC news. I want music.

I finally got some sleep after 3 and woke up around 5. I stayed in bed until 6:30. I showered and dressed and left a little after 7.

My stomach was feeling a queasy when I got up. That made me decide to be very laid back about the food I eat today.

It is 10 pm and I am heading to bed. It has been quite a day. I got to work and told a few people about the weekend and about Gerald’s passing. I later found his obituary in the paper at Lee Ann’s desk I told Shirley I would be taking the morning off on Wednesday. She looked at me and asked if I filled out the form. I told her no but I would.

I started on my work. I can’t remember what I did first. I think I went and got the mail from downstairs and started on that then it went from there. The only thing I didn’t do is the lockbox. I just ran out of time.

I tried to limit my time on the net to breaks and lunch. I am going to try and get to work early so I can work on it first.

I had talked to Mom today on the phone. She was getting ready for her appointment with Dr. Specter. It would be later on in the day. When I left for work she was just getting up and having warm milk instead of coffee.

The drive home wasn’t that bad but I was anxious to get home. Aunt Ann was in the back room reading and Mom was upstairs. She wasn’t really feeling well yet. She also hadn’t been home more than an hour. We made plans for dinner (roast beef sandwiches). I just had to go out and get some bread.

Mom tells me that she will have to miss Gerald’s funeral because the doctor scheduled some tests for her heart and blood tests. I was surprised she didn’t say she couldn’t make it because of the funeral.

I went to the store and got the bread and some fruit. I headed back and we got ready for dinner. During dinner we had gotten some phone calls. One of them was Telka confirming our meeting for tonight at Mickey D’s. The other was from Liz. Mom wanted to tell her about the appointment and the plans for Wednesday.

After dinner I helped clean up and then called Roberta. We talked about the situation with the Ronnie/Grant Money. Roberta feels as the others do Ronnie was not intending to do anything wrong with it. Anyway, we decided we would ride together.

I said my goodbyes and I gave mom a quick explanation about the meeting and the locale. She winced and urged me not to say anything. How little she knows.

I picked Roberta up a little before 7:15. We drove to the restaurant where Telka and Jolyn were waiting. Telka informed us that others who said they would be there backed out. So for the next hour we talked about solutions and clarification. We finished up by 8:20 and then headed home. I got a shake.

When I got home it was quarter of nine. Mom was upstairs in bed and Ann was downstairs finishing up her reading for the night. I went up and brought Mom her clean laundry and we talked briefly.

Ann had come up and gone to bed. I turned out the lights and headed downstairs to watch TV. Mom went to bed. I watched the American Experience program that featured Jim Jones and the Guyana tragedy back in November 1978. It was scary time and I remembered it from being on the news.

I am going to find some music and then go to bed.

Last Day of Vacation

Considering that today is my last day of vacation.   I am going to make sure things that were not done (housework mostly) are done...
