A Lovely Afternoon

Spent a lovely afternoon at the Mercy Center to hear a friends poetry reading as well as music and art.  Each of them experienced life threatening events and learned how to deal with it through different aspects of art.  It really was a lovely way to spend a rainy afternoon.

The only downside was I had been sneezing and sniffling through the entire day and I just was beginning to feel miserable.  It all started before I left for bingo.  I am thinking that the pollen and the rain started it all for me.

I left the house just after 8:30 my plans to attend an early mass went out the window and so I headed to Dunkin donuts for breakfast.  I went to the nursing home and had breakfast and then went in and hung around.  I was there before everyone came in.  AFter awhile people came in and so I spent time chatting.  Time sort of just got away from us and then we got ready for bingo.  We did start on time and finished on time.

I came directly home and Mom was multi-tasking.  She was starting to get our dinner ready for when we came home, and she was getting directions for the ride to Madison.  We also had lunch and then we took off.

As we got half way there Mom remembered she had turned the oven on (low) and left the food on the top of the stove.  We just continued to the Center.  When we got back after the program she put it in the oven and I went to the store.  We needed vegetables for the secondary dishes.

While the dinner was still cooking I took some cold medicine and slept for a while.  Unfortunately just before dinner was being served I got sick and so I had to clean everything in the bathroom. So Mom delayed dinner until I was done.

We had pot roast and it was quite delicious.  We had potatoes, and roasted vegetables and peas for dinner.  it was a great meal for a rainy afternoon.

The rest of the evening was spent watching TV including the season finale of Call the Midwife.  It had the feel of a season finale even though at the time I didn’t realize it was until I looked on the PBS site.

I just have a few more emails to send out and drink some Chamomile tea and then I will be going to bed so that I can be up early to start the week again.

Festival Day

There are three festivals going on in the area. They are The Walnut Beach festival, The Woodmont Day, and the Savin Rock Festival. The Walnut Beach one is tomorrow and the Woodmont Day and Savin Rock Festival is today. I am going to the Savin Rock Festival to hear Gayle’s friend Eugene play with the 5 Satins.

The Woodmont Day festival is basically one huge block party. Streets around the park are closed off to most vehicle traffic and there are games, rides, and food. I have been to it over the years both as a participant and volunteer. It was fun.

Before I do that though I need to work and hopefully get stuff done at home. I have already cleared the area for the guys to install new electrical stuff. I probably will be online through out the morning.

The Concerts

We left the house around 4 after a brief visit from Tessa and Mike. They were dropping off my calendar and some rolls for Mom. We got to the Casino by five after a few slow moments on the highway.

Once we got to the casino we headed to one of the buffet restaurants (I think it was seasons) we paid for our meals and then were seated at our table. We got our drink orders and then headed to the food. I can’t begin to even tell you what I had. Suffice it to say it was a lot.

After we finally finished eating we took a walk around the shops and did some window shopping. I even got a back and foot massage at Brookstone. We were surprised to find the store that had the big huge shark tanks had closed some time over the last few months. Around 20 of 8 we went to the ticket window and got the tickets.

We went to our seats way, way, way up in the nose bleed section. It was a bit disconcerting because we were only a few up there and when I was in my seat I could feel my legs go week and my stomach lurch (for lack of a better term). While we waited we watched the stage get set up and listened to the music and saw the coming attractions and chatted.

Exactly at 8 pm James Blount and his band came on and started playing after a few sets he introduced the band and continued playing. At one point he would have the audience interact. He climbed on the instruments. At one point he would go into the audience to get them to clap along and one woman stepped in front of him while he was running and hugged him. He was finished by 9. I think the song he is associated with “You’re beautiful” was the one he closed with. You can find out more about this talent man at his website.

We sat in our seats and watched the set up for Sheryl Crowe. It took about twenty minutes and she started at 9:20. Her concert was for 2 hours. She played her most famous songs and one that wasn’t so famous entitled “Gasoline”. Dave thought that one was corny. You can find out more about this talented lady and her music at Sheryl Crow Official Site. You will need to have flash media if you want to read her blog. I am very interested in knowing what she thought of the casino.

After the concert we drove home and we were home by 1 am. All in all I had a great time and would like to see more concerts.

August 9, 2007

It is now after 12:30. I have been listening to one of the Native American radio stations on the internet radio. The song is Bear in Danger by Mary Youngblood. It is really cool. I was hoping it would soothe me into sleep but it hasn't.

I knew I should have not had the coffee so late in the day yesterday. That coffee is what is keeping me up right now. Now I am trying to think of things that will get me to sleep. I probably could write up last night's minutes.

Well I managed to fall asleep after 2 this morning. I had a great sleep. I stayed in bed until 6:10 and got up emptied the garbage, emptied the dehumidifier, showered and dressed for work. Mom was up when I left for work.

Today is absolutely beautiful. The sun is shining and there is a cool breeze. I had no trouble getting to work. Unfortunately can't say the same for others in the Groton New London area. There was a truck accident bright and early this morning.

I have been following my to do list pretty closely. I made a few changes but I had too. Right now I am just doing readdressing personal mail while I am waiting for the Post office mail to arrive.

We got a collection flyer a little bit ago for Melinda G in Arizona. Her father passed away yesterday. I was talking with Angela A a w hile back and she said that MG's father died while she was talking to Melinda on the phone. I thought it was sad but as Angela pointed out in some way she was there with them.

The afternoon is going okay. I am getting stuff done even though I have spent a rather long period of time on the net. I think I first got on it around break time this morning.

Well it is now after 9 and it is a beautiful cool night. I am not sure what the temperature is Mom says its 60. I decided to check and it is 71 degrees. The temperature is supposed to go down over night. No rain until three tomorrow morning. I really hope it poors. Mom's been worried about the flowers and plants. At the same time she was telling me how much the water bill was compared to last year and last month.

The end of the work day was okay. I just have three piles of EOBS to sort while doing tomorrows work. I will have everything done by the time Dolette and I leave for the gas station.

Mom was at a meeting when I got home I sat down and watched TV after I read the instructions for dinner. I put the dinner in alittle after 5. I forgot to take the plastic wrap off. Mom came home around 5:30.

We ate around 6. I was tired and cranky and Mom couldn't stay long because she had another meeting to go to. I cleaned up the kitchen and made some calls.

I called the rubinsteins because I needed to pay the club dues to Roberta and i wanted to ask her what she thought about people who get upset or concerned at having their pictures taken by total strangers.

I went over around 7 and stayed for an hour. We talked about a lot of things including Credit Cards. She was giving me some tips.

I was home a short while later and decided to do some laundry. It is going now and I am not touching until tomorrow. AS long has I have stuff for tomorrow.

I better get going I have to go to the garage tomorrow for overall check up. Carol B is going to pick me up from Tim's around 7:30.

Last Day of Vacation

Considering that today is my last day of vacation.   I am going to make sure things that were not done (housework mostly) are done...
