New England Chapter of the Linden Hall School Alumnae Association

This past year I was invited to become a member of the New ENgland Regional/chapter Alumni Association of Linden Hall School for Girls.  In the months followed we had zoom meetings (that I ended up having to miss because of scheduling conflicts.

In early spring a few of the girls organized our first in person meeting lunch for June.  It was held at Michael’s Harborside Restaurant in Newburyport MA.  I drove up that morning while the others drove in from New Hampshire, Maine, Mass.  We spent the next couple of hours talking of our memories of our time at Linden Hall.

Near the end we got to discuss our goals and plans for the future of the chapter as we are the pilot.

We will be helping the alumnae association promote the school. We were told there is no hared Mary Dixon  Chapel.    If that's not working let  me know.  Doing this on my er. HaptE ThThe virtual  tour was an hour and let by a Debbie and one other lovely lady.  It showed the day students  lounge and the  beautiful organ.  Those of us in attendance shared memories and  asked questions.

There is a lot of interest  in other regional chapters  across  the country.

We have been given an assignment  if you will. We have to reach out to our new england sisters and encourage  them to join.  I have one for a class of 82 who lives in CT that  need to reach out too.

There are a lot of other activities coming down the pike for the Alumnae Association and although I am not going to be able to participate in all of them its nice to see.

This Week was My Niece's 16th birthday

I have received multiple reminders that my teenage great niece Audrey turned 16 yesterday.   For those who are not familiar she is My sister’s Granddaughter Via Chris and Steph.   Her parents have been divorced quite some time. She is down in North Carolina with her extended family.  I chatted with her a short time ago until I realized she was still in School.

She is a wonderful little sister to her brother Jason, and wonderful Big Sister to both Sophie and Aiden (who is currently walking up a storm).  They belong to Chris and his current wife Jen.  Whom I love dearly.

According to her replies to me AM doesn’t have any plans for her birthday.  I can’t imagine her not getting a celebration but what do I know.  I have since learned from my sister that Audrey’s Mom and Step father are taking them (Jason’s birthday is in a few weeks) to Ireland.

I hope we get to see them sometime soon.  Maybe by the holidays I hope.  I still need to ask Liz about their next visit.

Some of my Florida Classmates from Live Oaks are planning a birthday party for those of us who hit 60 this year and it's going to be in Clearwater.  On March 11 2023.  I would love to go but I don’t think I can yet.

This afternoon I learned that a classmate of mine lost her brother.  THe  classmate was from Foran High.  Her Brother died unexpectedly in Woodbridge on Friday.  Honestly Joanne and I didn’t hang out in the same circles but probably had classes together.  I certainly didn’t know her brother.

Unfortunately Chairman Rosen sent out an email alerting us that another long time DTC member passed away last week.  Her name is Una and a friend of Mom’s for years.  I have seen her over the years a few times at the parties they mention in the obituary.

I spoke with Roberta on the way home from work today and she is in 90 degree weather.  She does avoid the strip most days if they can.  She expects to see her Daughter and Son in law in mid November.

Everyone in the family is doing well.

I have to miss the meetup for the ladies guild tonight.

Really don't want to go out this afternoon.

I am not really looking forward to going to the Hematologist this afternoon.  I have a couple of reasons.  One is I have get INR level checked I am sure.  The other is the weather is going to be crappy.
I am sure that the dosage for warfarin is going up and I will be a pin cushion.  The bruise from the last time I had blood taken hasn’t gone away from my left arm.
The weather really isn’t going to get crappy until later tonight with thunderstorms and possible hail of course that’s okay as I am not going anywhere tonight and of course if there isn’t anything on TV I will go to bed early.
My grocery list is getting a little longer now.  I am trying to decide if I should go this afternoon after my appointment or should I wait a couple of days.  I still have enough beef and fish, and pork for the meals and I barely make salads but I have to start using the lettuce part.  Actually the small grape tomatoes are starting to look like red raisins.
The kitties are currently at my feet on the bed.  I hate to move but I need to do the shot and get ready for my Dr. Appointment.  They have been sleeping on the bed at night most nights.  They also were sitting with me on the sofa before I went to bed and they stayed for a short time.  Of course they got up at their normal time this morning and I got up at 6.  They have been fed and watered.
A few days ago I received an email from Endicott College‘s President Steven DiSalvo with his monthly or weekly update as to what the school is doing during the pandemic.  Apparently the Alumni department is planning several virtual activities over the next several weeks to keep in practice the social distancing.  He also shared how the students and staff are helping in their own way during the pandemic.  I am a little apprehensive about going to the Alumni activities.  I have to look at what they are first.
Linden Hall Alumnae asked all of us to send cards of encouragement to the students who had to stay on campus.  Sadly I haven’t done it yet.  I need to check the FB pages and see what they are up to.
Apparently not much is going on except connecting with other classmates they haven’t seen.  They were doing that Share your senior class picture in support of the class of 2020.  Of course the BBB released an article to not do this because of the personal information.  Why do this?  I am not I don’t have a scanner and I don’t know where I can find my class picture from there online.
Oh and there is survey asking if we would like to see a woman as Headmistress of the school.  The Headmaster has retired, stepped down etc. and some of my fellow schoolmates feel that a woman should be in the position.
Haven’t heard anything about Southern (at least alumni stuff) or Gateway.
Well it time for the televisit.. check in later.

As Expected

As I had expected mid-week and the end of last week was incredibly busy and exhausting.

Wednesday was my eye doctor appointment and the last of the two scholarship presentations.  The Eye Doctor Appointment went very well and no eye diseases.  My next one is in 6 months.

Jim came up for the presentation but on the way here got stuck in traffic and got here around 5:30.  He had a short time to relax before we left for the presentation.  While he relaxed I got ready and we left by 6.

We got there on time and sat down.  He was anxious to make sure someone knew we were there.  I figured they would see us when they invited us up but he persisted and spoke to the principal and so they spoke and he sat down.  We listened to two of the seniors playing music.  Eventually the choir, and the rest of the students arrived and the dignitaries all came in and sat down.  We went through a few speeches and some presentations and eventually it was our turn.  I can’t begin to say who the recipients were for Mom’s scholarship but it was all very quickly.  After one more presentation we left-I would like to say inconspicuously but I am pretty sure everyone saw it.

We went to Rainbow Gardens for dinner and we had a nice evening.  We ate outside and had a humus appetizer and we both had something different. Mine was shrimp and penne pasta.  It was nearly 9 when we left and shortly got home.  When we got home we got ready for bed.  We chatted and Jim thanked me for having him come up and he enjoyed the presentation.  We talked about things that are coming up.  He left Thursday morning but not before getting rid of a dead mouse the cats left me in my bedroom.

Thursday was no slouch either.  Liz came by to let her friend Lenny come and install the new window we ordered weeks ago.  It really looks beautiful and I will get a picture very soon.

Thursday was a short day work wise as I had a late afternoon cardiologist and if any of you follow me on Facebook (cough* help yourself cough*) you will see we had some excitement.  A fire erupted in the flower garden/mulch outside the building and quickly spread.  When it came time for my BP to be checked it was incredibly high.  Gee wonder why? By the time I left it went down but still not enough.  He wants to see me in December and then after that yearly.  He seems to think I won’t be needing the FMLA eventually.  I don’t think Dr. S would agree much.

We finally got an update regarding the move.  Plans to move ahead will begin in the fall to 350 George Street (basically two doors down from where we are now) and it looks like we will be moving in over the Christmas Recess.

Friday was a sad day for us as we found out that our co-worker Toni lost her teenage niece to brain cancer.  The obituary appeared in today’s paper and the services are mid-week next week.  I am going to go to the wake.  Obviously Toni took it very hard.

We also had an early morning presentation regarding-well I am not really sure what it was but it did include Emergency Preparedness like those that happened in California last month and in the past.  The video was “interesting” but the other part I found to be boring and some of the programs they do offer for employees are not feasible for me.  I am sure Tina knows what I am referring to.

I was relieved that both Thursday and Friday nights were nights to relax.  I had gotten a lovely phone call from Mama Roberta and we talked for nearly 30 minutes on Thursday.  Friday night after getting a wonderful call from Liz and hellos from her visiting grandchildren and invite for Breakfast this morning I ended up going to bed.

This morning I got up early and got ready for breakfast at my sister’s.  Apparently I was to arrive at 8:30 but I got there early.  When I arrived Liz was just making her coffee and we sat outside while the others slept.  My Nephew R arrived and chatted and then everyone else began to rise.  We finally ate around 9 or so and over the next few hours we talked and visited and then the men folk (sans N) had to go to work.  Cousin De came and so I ended up staying until Noon.  That completely changed my plans for a visit to Wal*Mart today.  I still had laundry to do and other stuff I am trying to motivate myself to do.

The kitties have been pretty funny and brave.   On Wednesday they were very cautious around Jim but they were accepting of him.  They walked in his room a few times and just walked out again.  OH and they brought me a mouse.  It was on my floor-bedroom floor.  Like I mentioned Jim handled it before left for home.  They have been playful to the point where Tiger has had to set Sky straight.  She was hissing at him this morning.  Something spooked them from the cedar chest sleeping spots and they took off in different directions.  Sky ran across the dresser closest to him and nearly knocked things off.  Nothing was broken just needed to be straightened.  Now they are just hanging out downstairs.  I notice she tried to come up but turned around and left.

The weather has been so beautiful during the day and rather chilly almost every night.  It was in the 60’s for a couple of nights tonight is a bit warmer but it is going to drop as we are supposed to get rain starting tonight and all day tomorrow.  I am going to leave most of the windows open unless the rain comes in.

Finally my Sympathies to the family Friends, colleagues, and fans of Cassius Clay aka Muhammad Ali.  The sports legend died yesterday at the age of 74.  He had been hospitalized earlier in the week for respiratory failure and COD was Septic shock from natural causes.  The sports channels focused on him mostly and his town of Louisville KY had a service for him and have the city flags at half-staff.  My sister was put out by that because it widely believed that is only for heroes.  She acknowledged he was a great sports legend but not always very nice.  I am pretty sure I am not the only who has blogged about it either.

I think I am going to surf some more and then get ready for bed.

miserable day

I was a couple of minutes late for work today and about five minutes after that we got word there was a Human Resources meeting.  Luckily it wasn’t just for me but it was worrisome because it was about Lay-offs.  I made a couple of mistakes while inputting information for the refund checks.   It was basically a follow up and their seeking “help” from us and to update.
For the first time in many months there were only two of us in the aisle and the supervisor.  It is an issue for the management as well.  It's one of many things that is a concern for them.  By 3:15 I was the only one in the aisle.  It was very weird.
In my last entry I mentioned my Alma Maters.  I received an email from the President of Endicott College in Beverly MA on the heels of the tragic accident of a student who was killed.  Sadly he was the passenger and the driver it was drunk driving and in the email President gave high praises to the Endicott community coming together in strength.  Grief counselors were there this week.
Linden Hall was the Host of the annual Reunion Weekend.  Several alumni posted to Facebook videos on the chapel vespers.  There were also pictures  of two of my Classmates with administrator P Sullivan.  She looks great and she has been a mentor and supporter of all of the women who walked through the halls of Linden Hall.  There were the dinners and reunions throughout the weekend.  I wish I had been able to go but it wasn’t feasible.
Live Oaks Alumni group received an announcement that a wonderful music teacher Martha Mahoney passed away in upstate CT.  I do remember her and I have met up with her recently at some function. I think it may have even been at the Creative Writing contest the club sponsors.
The only news I get about Southern Connecticut State University seems to be their sports program.  I guess I will have to keep looking.
The latest news from Foran is how two sisters are leading fundraisers to raise money to help prevent drug abuse in the Milford youth.  They lost a sister when she OD’d on Heroin.
My arm is hurting tonight so I haven’t done much of the cleaning out of the bedroom.  I still have a couple of nights to do them.
In the meantime I need to go to bed...

Saturday Doings

Every time I have an very busy weekend I usually like to have the following weekend or part of the weekend to relax and catchup.  Today is that day.  I don't have to be anywhere if I don't need to and its pretty cold out to boot so I want to stay in with the kitties.  I have some laundry to do and some cooking but nothing that needs to be done outside.

I am sad to find out a dear friend of mine has a very sick kitty.  Jack has cancer and they don't know how long he has.  I met Jack a long time ago when I visited his Mom for our first "Andromeda" fan weekend.  At least i think that is the one.  I have followed Mardi ever since then and loved hearing about her babes.  I want her to know that we here in the  KP home are thinking of you and sending prayers.

You all remember when I wrote earlier this week that I yelled at the cats for something they did?  Well this article couldn't have come at a better time.  So since I found it on FB originally and looked into and saw some things I have found myself doing I am trying extremely hard not to do or trying to do more for them.   They still don't like getting their coats brushed.  Sky keeps trying to bite the brush and Tiger tries and walks away.  I am always checking the water bowls especially after hearing that refreshed water can cause the bug they had in early January.  I always kiss their head and body.  I speak in a calm voice all the time and work from there.  Tiger is at the foot of the bed and I am about to check on Sky.  I think he is in the box mattress again.

Got an email from DR. T today.  She had submitted an article to the GFWC International magazine Club Woman and it was posted this month.  It included our two out going girls club presidents A and J and all though I can see the entire article through the email (its probably a blurb type under the "news from around the states" section.  This is great to let the world know about what we do its always fun to read about the club.  We have been mentioned a few times over the years since we began the club.

This past week was a week to get Alumni news and reminders.  Earlier this week The Alumni Newsletter flyer arrived from Linden Hall this week.  It is a fairly different one from the ones in the past.  It had some class notes not as much as in the past (it depends on who sends stuff in. I guess).  It featured the 2015 weekend activities and staff notes as well.  I follow a couple of my classmates from LH on FB and wondered if they got it too and if they are going to this years activities.  Every year this an Alumnae Weekend and some of the classes are having their annual reunions and others get together and stuff.  I don't know if we had a 30th class reunion yet but I am sure they went to the Alumna Weekend anyway.

Endicott College is constantly having alumni gatherings all over the country and they are sponsoring a big trip to Ireland sometime this year.  On their Facebook page they recently had pictures of the snow they got this past week and how it looked on the campus.  I actually can't remember what it looked like.  i don't remember if it snowed much the year I went.

Next week is the 4th District meeting and it will be here.  I have to make sure the house stays fairly clean and neat and start looking for things to have as appetizers.  Of course finish the minutes as well.

TGIF

I don’t think I have used that title in an entry in quite some time but today was a good day to do so.  I was very busy all day and I felt I accomplished a lot and my desk still looks good.  Even though I wasn’t feeling that well in the morning but by midafternoon I was feeling better.  Then when I got home I had to go to the bathroom quick.

Since I have been home I had some quiet time with Star on the couch.  A couple of times she has tried helping me type this.  Now she is staring at me.  Sky finally came down after I had my shower.  He followed me back upstairs while I got into my pajamas.  I opened the cellar door and both had gone down but both came back up.

I saw an article post on Facebook from PetMD regarding litterboxes and problems.  I can’t find the exact one that was on Facebook but I went to the actual website and they had pretty informative articles.  One of them is to have more litterboxes than amount of cats.  Something the vet told me when I took Sky for his physical in July.  It also said that the litterboxes may have to be washed out more than is done.  I try to do it once a month but recently it took me a little longer to do it.  It also says to stay with one cat litter product that your cat likes and not go changing it all the time.

I did find the video from the cartoon about the dog and cat…I am sure all of you have seen it.  The dog finds a kitten and the kitten and the dog become fast friends and every time the kitten gets up on his back the cat scratches (or whatever) the back to get comfortable.  Every time Tiger lies on my lap or legs when I sit on the couch she does the same thing.

Some interesting school news this week.  Endicott College in Beverly now has their Alumni Bulletins online.  As promised my little email to them last year was in the class notes.  I was pleased by that and my hope is that my circle of friend during that time get to see it.  Also some of my LH Classmates get to see it too.

Speaking of Linden Hall.  I recently friended a couple of my classmates from 1982 Class President Julie on Facebook.  Actually I always thought she was but I think it may have been Denise B.  I had kept in touch with them through the years more often than not and lost touch with them.  Even though I was the class alumni rep for a few years and then I think Julie took over.  I think I saw Julie at the last big reunion but I didn’t see Denise at least I don’t remember if I did.  But I did find out I found out Denise has been living in CT.

There was an article posted to the Linden Hall Sisters Facebook page announcing the Wilbur Chocolate factory that has been a mainstay of Lititz would be closing or moving.  Everyone who has posted remembered the chocolate smell that would waft through the town every day.  My vivid memory was the chocolate smell would happen just about the same time as the pretzel factory across the street from the dorms were making the pretzels and the lovely smell of horse shit from the stables around the corner.  Yum.

The Administration, Faculty, staff, and students all attended the annual Mount Gretna Day.  It is an official Skip school day where everyone goes and has day of fun.  There was skating, picnics, and all around fun.  I don’t remember much else of it but I do remember meeting my guidance counselor.  Mrs. Misch.  She lived across the street from the school in Lititz.  I remember seeing her when I went for the 25th class reunion.  This year the fun continued in the dorms when they returned from the day.  In one of the dorms they had a Halloween party.  It looks like they had fun.

There isn’t much on TV tonight that I have resorted to watching/listening to Music Choice Channels Sounds of the Season…theme this week? Halloween.  That’s Okay the computer needs to get charged.

Have a great night…

Dear Friends

December 3, 2013

Dear Friends:

This day didn’t start off too well.  I missed the buses.  I had to take a taxi and the guy asked me for directions with a GPS sitting to his left.  The whole thing was stressful.  The upside I got here on time.  The downside it cost me $30.  I wasn’t looking forward to telling Mom how it went.  I called her and she was just getting up.  Didn’t mention the cab ride.

I got another email from JV again the same exact wording as her previous email.  I blocked her email and it went directly into the Junk email.  I am not going to be brow-beat to answering someone when they say I am being lazy.  I told this woman from the beginning I would do email.  I am an infrequent emailer as you also know.  To me pen paling is supposed to be a fun thing to do not having to sweat it out.

Heard from the mechanic.  They replaced battery and noticed an oil leak but not sure where it is coming from.  They will put dye on it and in a couple of days will check it out to see where.    No cooling fluid loss ether.  I picked it up after work.  I will have to call tomorrow to schedule a time to put the dye in so they can follow it a few days.

Well another college campus was put on lockdown today.  This time it was University of New Haven in West Haven CT.  Afternoon Classes were cancelled while the man was taken into custody after getting out of a car at a Shoprite Parking lot on Campbell Avenue with a rifle  This incident  is the third one in a month.  The first one (and this I didn’t know) was Central Connecticut State University back in Early November.  The other one was early last week at Yale University.  Investigators are still investigating that incident.  I am told they know who the caller was who made the phone call that shut down the Yale campus for hours on Monday. When I left for the bus tonight  I was certain I didn’t want to take the bus that goes right through the area so I I took  the J-Bus and it meant more walking but I got to the garage.

I heard from Nancy today via Facebook.  She was reminding me about this weekend.  I asked her if her husband Patrick knew or caught on and he knows they are doing something but nothing about the mode or who they are seeing (his son).  They will be back late Monday night so I will go straight there from work and walk and feed the critters.

I talked with Liz today.  She is getting better but not completely there yet.  I told her about the wrist (it seems fine for now-thank goodness for Tylenol) and the right knee that’s still giving me a hard time when I have to lift it up high.  I promised I would call the doctor if these continued any discomfort but I really don’t want to.

Since I have been home I have been watching TV and doing a little surfing.  I told Mom I wasn’t hungry and as of this writing I am still not.  That Ruben sandwich was heavy and delicious.  I am hoping with all the water I drank it won’t affect me negatively (then again that could explain my legs today).

I am going to crash for now.  I will watch some more TV and then head to bed.

Have a great night.

Dear Friends

                                                                                                     October 6, 2013

Dear Friends:

It is a cloudy and rainy Sunday morning.  I am in the middle of getting ready for my day.  I have been up a while but surfing the net and finally getting the thank you note to my friend and fellow Endicott Alumni Kristie for the Endicott T-Shirt she gave me when she was here for the Meet and Greet last week.

Sadly I read last night that this past week a current student at Endicott College was killed by a train during the week.  President Richard Wylie posted a letter to the Endicott Community of the news and providing services for those who knew her and those who didn’t.  I would imagine there will be some kind of service for her for the students and faculty.

I have so many different memories of that school.  I just hope I never lose them.  I made some wonderful friends and lost some as well.

Well it is time for me to get to bingo.  When I come home I hope to be working on those pesky minutes for the 4th District.

Halloween 2012

Dear Milford Residents due to the recent Hurricane and its aftermath Halloween will be postponed until Wednesday November 7, 2012.  This will be so that our future generations will be safe as we clean up and get Milford back in order.  According to Milford Patch.com city officials surveyed the hardest hit and canceled school for the rest of the week.

Work was as I pretty much expected.  Busy and hectic the volume of the mail was heavy but I was expecting more lockbox.  The lockbox wasn’t handed to me until 11 just about the same time as the second wave arrived.    I spent the hours before its arrival doing re-address mail and chatting with others over storm stories.   .

I saw Liz and Nelson today.  Their street had wires down (and dead for now) and the fire department was trying to remove their neighbors’ tree from the house.   It really cut a huge hole in the roof.  She tells me that Nephew Chris lost everything in his basement apartment.  He will be staying with his girl friend but the weekends he has the kids he will be staying with Liz.  The kids will too.

My appointment with the Hematologist was good.  I got my B-12 shot as well.  I hadn’t been taking my iron pills of late because the last time he said the anemia was low.  He does want me to get more blood work to see how much longer I have to take the Coumadin.  He wants me to do it a week after I get my INR (and I don’t have a cold)

My scratchy throat is not getting any better.  I think I am getting a cold.  I found myself sneezing coughing and the like.  I just took the night time cold medicine from Costco.  I hope it starts to work.

I am going to watch NCIS until 10 and then watch H: TLJ at 10 and then hit the sack.  I am going too definitely try getting in early to finish today’s mail and then work on what ever comes in.

My class reunion

I have been up for about 30 minutes. I started my laundry early so I won’t have to worry about it later. I am thinking I will wear the outfit I had on for Adam and Olga’s reception. I probably will change my mind again later. Wanda G did say it was casual.

It is over cast and cold out right now but no snow or rain yet. I need to get ready for the canvassing at the headquarters. I will probably do that for about two hours and then come home and do more stuff for tonight.

According to Weather.com the storm has already started in the Mid-Atlantic States and is heading this way. I may check blogs to see if anyone is up this early writing about it.

I left the house around 9 and went to the bank and then headed to the headquarters. Ben and Rich were on a conference call with the printers about the latest mailing they needed changes on it. After a while Seny and I were given the route we would be covering and instructions and off we went.

We had the Naugatuck Avenue area. That included some streets off it that were dead end streets and very interesting to see. We covered a few streets when just around 11 it started to rain. We headed back to the headquarters and Alex and Justin were there. Justin had taken some high school girls around to canvas as well. They had just as much luck as we did. Some people were not home or they were just waking up.

I was back home by 12. I had lunch and watched TV. Mom was doing odds and ends around the house. I manage to fold clothes and put the others in the dryer going they had to be put through again.

It started snowing around 12:30. It’s been heavy flakes and of course sticking to most everything. Mom was thinking that the reunion was cancelled and I told her no that it was still planned for tonight.

Mom went shopping and got back by 2:15 or so. She maintained that the reunion would be cancelled. I was getting frustrated a little because apparently she didn’t hear me the first time I said it. I keep checking the Facebook page and it says the same thing.

Got a call from Dave this afternoon he cancelled his party for tonight and rescheduled it for tomorrow afternoon. I plan on going right before I go to Liz’s house to see baby Nelly.

I decided to take a nap for about an hour before getting ready for this event. A part of me is really nervous as I haven’t seen some of these people in years and the fact the event may be cancelled.

The nervousness about it being cancelled was laid to rest when Wanda posted a message confirming that it is still on.

I arrived there early even though it was still Sleeting. I was greeted by Amy O, Wanda G, and Carey G. Eventually more and more people came. The grand total came to 80 people. Some I remembered some I didn’t. We ate and took pictures and told stories of health and family. I left around 9 and it was snowing again.

I was home by 9:30 and told Mom about and posted on my Facebook page. I do know there were some pictures of me and we got a cd of the music of 1981.

I have a feeling there are still a lot of people there and Many of them were planning on getting together again soon.

I have been trying to find my yearbook but no luck. Maybe tomorrow…when I am more awake.

Wow didn't realize I would be this tired

I have been home nearly two hours now and I can’t believe how tired I am. I was able to finish the postage tallies for today. I got part of the lobby mail done and got to Debra’s office with no problem.

The session went by fast too. We talked about the past weekend; my evening with Dave and of course High School. I have noticed as time goes on there are some memories of that time that have holes in it. Like for example where was Dad at that time? Was he working still with the railroad (yes of course he was). I had talked about Tim G (my first HS love) and what being a Police explorer was like.

When the session was over we scheduled the next session which could be next Friday (first Friday in November or the Wednesday before that).

The walk back to the car got a little dicey. I started feeling sick and getting the runs. It didn’t go away and it was a real pain in the butt (sorry for the pun).

The ride home seemed long but I did manage to see the most beautiful sunset at 6. The sky was all orange and it took what little breath I had away.

The minute I got home I jumped into the bathtub. I got cleaned up and now it has passed for the most part but it was really embarrassing.

Mom made baked chicken in panko breading and marinated in salad dressing. It was delicious. She also had potatoes and stuffing. It was really good. For dessert she had baked apples with cran-raisins.

A few more people have responded to receiving the minutes from last week’s district meeting. We have twenty one people and about ten have replied. This is pretty much the case for the meetings too.

I was quite surprise to received a letter from Calvary Hospital. That’s the hospital that I guess supports PBS all the time. The one that has a family member says “My father got his final dignity at Calvary Hospital.” Then Frank Calamari would speak on behalf of the hospital. Every time that man would speak I would wonder how he survived growing up with the name he had. I don’ think I can contribute right now especially with finances the way they are.

Well one of the pen pal groups I moderate welcomed back a former member. The girl dropped out back in September. I don’t remember why but if she keeps dropping out I am putting a stop to it.

Okay I better get to bed. I am really getting tired now. Have a great night.

Saturday

I tried to get up at 5:30 and start the laundry but it didn’t work so I started just about the time Mom got up for the day. I should be finished with it by 2 at least.

The room still has more to be done with it but it should be enough for Don. Although he hasn’t called yet to come to do the ghost image but I did send him an email about the Adobe flash thing. He may feel I don’t need it.

Mom went to her friend’s memorial service this morning and got back around 12:30. She was running late when Aunt Serena called. They were discussing methods of getting the rugs from her house to ours. Bob was supposed to get them but according to Mom he was in bed when she saw him this afternoon.

I feel slightly guilty because when Bob called he was snarky but didn’t tell me he was sick. He sounded like it but at the time I didn’t think of it. I was already starting to project some arguing between me and family because I was getting annoyed by his abruptness.

I finally got to see the woodchuck today. Man is he fat. He looked like he was watching me from his hole and it looked like he could hear things going in the house. Ten minutes later he was heading for the swamp through the wood stacks in Don’s yard.

It looks like the rest of the day will be quiet. Liz and Nelson are probably recuperating from their busy week. They were babysitting and Liz hasn’t fully recovered from the bronchitis.

I just received the Alumnae Magazine from Linden Hall today. Among the articles there was one about Mount Gretna. It was a school wide Skip day where the entire school goes and spends the day at camp/activity place. I remember when I went over 30 years ago. We were in Chapel and the Headmaster at the time made announcements all of a sudden when he announced MT Gretna the entire chapel erupted in cheers.

The next hour all of us got ready for the waiting buses. I can’t remember how we got there but I remember some of the pictures from the year book. There were fires and eating, and then roller skating. In October 2010 the anticipated announcement was made by Assistant Headmistress Shaaron Lavery. It certainly was the way I remember it. I have to admit I don’t remember all the conversations but I do remember talking to My Counselor Mrs. Mischke who has since retired from there but on my last visit lived literally across the street from the school.

I also remember one of my new friends not wanting to go and I just wouldn’t accept it I believe she ended up coming.

There was a great article on Patricia Sullivan She was a teacher and was Admissions guru for potential Students and I am not quite sure how we met her but she has been a staple of the school for a long time. Over sixty years according to the article. She is quite the Historian for Lititz and the school too.

Well I have to finish my laundry. I don’t think I moved into the dryer for one of the loads….I will check back later….

Aw found a teacher of mine from Elementary school

Aw found a little while ago via a friend’s facebook that a teacher named Mr. Corkery whom I had in elementary school passed away on Friday. He has been living in West Haven for many years. I had a chance to catch up with him some years back when he was temporarily at West River Nursing home (nee Mediplex). His wake is this afternoon at Cody White Funeral home.

The ice cream social went pretty well. Telka had a lovely video presentation for our potential member named Natalie. She is going to be a freshman at Laurelton. Five of the girls from the girls club came and we had a great time. We talked about work, the Relay for Life, and of course school. They are full of energy. I had my share of ice cream, fruit salad, and brownies and cookies. The next one is on Friday. My intention will be to be there for that.

Telka and Ted leave tomorrow for Seattle Washington to drop Ted off for his semester in the Wilderness program. According to Telka he hadn’t finished packing for this trip. She also had to finish packing as well. John will be staying home this trip.

I decided to see if I could find more blogs of our sister GFWC clubs and haven’t found anything but I did manage to visit the homepage and do little more searching. I will continue to search and visit the different clubs home pages.

As I mentioned in my Lupus Blog I was in a great deal of pain for most of yesterday. The pain subsided some within a short time after I took the medicine for it. I mentioned in there as well. I am pretty certain it was the foods I had but I think it was also caused by the weather. I just tried to lift my left leg up and I could still feel some pain in the knee.

Well I better try and get some more sleep. I want to be up at 5:30 and do some stuff before leaving for work. As I mentioned earlier in the weekend today is the day LG returns. I am now getting anxious again because well this lady can be rather hard to take some time.

Oh Mom says the furnace is going to be serviced today. I think the basic maintenance and winterizing. Mom says she will be home most of the day still cleaning and putting things back in palce. She is becoming more at ease with the white walls.

Last Day of Vacation

Considering that today is my last day of vacation.   I am going to make sure things that were not done (housework mostly) are done...
