Some changes at work

Last week we learned that two of our Senior Leadership people have departed. They are COO and CAO.  One we barely saw if at all through monthly meetings and the CAO came in almost weekly.  We have been assured that’s the only change going on.  I had learned at the committee meeting on Wednesday, but various departments found out the week before.  By the time the week ended everyone knew. The union is pushing the Local 33 action that’s happening this thursday.  I contacted my people at least twice (I am not going to take them by the hand and lead them there)..  The weekly SP committee was canceled because EV has a meeting with DR. McGovern .  I look forward to meeting her in person. Tania finished working on the refunds that she was asked to work on and she finished the mail that arrived today and I finished most of Fridays.  I just have to scan stuff out and then I can work on the CD upload. Yes I said CD upload.  Mustafa is out this w...

Dear Friends

October 14, 2013 Dear Friends: Happy Columbus Day!  I hope you get to enjoy the holiday.  I had to work today but it was a fairly light day and allowed me to work on other stuff.  It seemed pretty quiet all around.   I don’t know about other towns but I know Milford still had school today.  Well I don’t expect the postoffice to be open but it looks like the banks maybe open... I told a number of people about the lost wallet story and they all thought it was cool but they hadn’t read about it .  Hmmm.  Well I can see that.  I didn’t know it it was family related until I heard the story yesterday.  I have to make sure I get the story and save it in my journal folder.  I also sent it to Dave and Jim K. Dr. T sent out emails about the Pie in the sky activity for next month.  Now that we no longer have the support of the Hopkins we can only make 20 pies we had to pick the day we can do it.  She sent me a flyer to print...

A new month a short week

Hey Happy July 1st everyone.  Happy Monday too.  Weather not too great.  It was hot humid, and cloudy, and rainy at times.  I think its supposed to be like this for the next few  days.  I am hoping it will be clear for tomorrow and Wednesday for Jim’s visit. Work went well.  The mail volume was pretty good and I was able to get it finished by the time I left.  I didn’t stay for OT because I had a wake to attend after work and I had things at home to do. Mom and I went to the wake around 5.   We stayed for about 20 minutes while reacquainting ourselves with D & P’s Family history.  One of the girls thought I was a cousin and was weird.  I won’t say rude because having to deal with a death isn’t easy.,  We got back to the house after 5:30 and MOm  continued to put together our dinner while I relaxed.   Mom told me she tried to get my name on the safe deposit box but we both have to be there...

First TGIF of 2013

I am glad it is Friday.  i have been busy today.   I managed to work on some of the readdress and the lock box (and that was weird too).  The bank that handles our lock box must have had new people working on it because they had opened and stapled the documents and the envelopes together.  It was time consuming to unstaple everything. We had spoken to them about it when we first contracted with them and it has been fine until today.  JB said she would speak to them about it. I met with Debra and we spoke about the holidays and how I respond to things when I feel being judged and criticized and find a way of dealing with it.  it was interesting. When I got back to the office I finished opening the post office mail.  I think the way I did it today took too much time to do it.  It also didn’t help to be online either.  I basically would open a small batch at time sort them and then date them and open the rest.  I should ha...

Crazy Busy

Image
Today was crazy busy.   There was road work down the street from our street and it caused a back up (It was the Oyster river repair job).   The commute home was even nuttier. There was a traffic delay from Fair Haven all the way to West Haven and so I had to take the long way around.   I got home for dinner by 6:40. When I did get to work I found lockbox waiting for me.   Before getting started I think I went and picked up stuff from ITS.   I spent the day working on the mail and got it done by 1:30.   I also worked on Re-address mail as well.   I made a dent in the Medical Society stuff.   From 2 pm until 6 I was scanning.   I have to tally the numbers to see how much I got done for Scanning. Speaking of which I just wrote to Mardi about Friday, originally I told her that I might be working but I found out today that there is no approved OT for scanning only Cash posting.   There is approved OT for Scanning and Cash posting...

Veteran's Day 2012

Image
To all the service men who have served our country over the years and in the future thank you for keeping us safe.     The City of Milford had a parade on Sunday and I do believe they had wreath laying ceremonies in the center of town (where most of our statues are).    I am not sure when they stopped the parade.   Sunday   MYWC Club and Girls Volunteer Club had a ceremony at the West River Nursing home honoring those who were in the Service We had a program for all the participants, and we had patriotic songs and a moment of silence.   We started around quarter of 2 and finished by 2:30.    We also visited the Veteran’s who chose not to come to the service. ( I guess they felt the Patriots game was alittle more important. I managed to get to sleep around 1 am Sunday morning.   I woke up before 7 and spent time checking out the forums and emails that came in over night.    There was some really interesting stuff. ...

Halloween 2012

Image
Dear Milford Residents due to the recent Hurricane and its aftermath Halloween will be postponed until Wednesday November 7, 2012.   This will be so that our future generations will be safe as we clean up and get Milford back in order.   According to Milford Patch.com city officials surveyed the hardest hit and canceled schoo l for the rest of the week. Work was as I pretty much expected.   Busy and hectic the volume of the mail was heavy but I was expecting more lockbox.   The lockbox wasn’t handed to me until 11 just about the same time as the second wave arrived.       I spent the hours before its arrival doing re-address mail and chatting with others over storm stories.     .   I saw Liz and Nelson today.   Their street had wires down (and dead for now) and the fire department was trying to remove their neighbors’ tree from the house.    It really cut a huge hole in the roof.   She tells me that Neph...

Two Months

Two months ago tonight we got that horrible phone call that said Bob wasn’t breathing. We rushed to the hospital and was there before any one else was. That night the doctor said nothing could have been done by anyone. Now there is emptiness in our families’ heart. We continue each day to work through the grief. There are times when I get frustrated or angry with Mom or any situation and shout out (yes I talk to myself out loud) and think that Bob hears me and I have to apologize. Not only to him but my Father, aunts, uncles etc. It rained this morning and continued to rain until maybe lunch time. The sun came out late in the day and had warmed up a little bit. I think we are supposed ot get more rain before the weekend starts but I can’t be sure. Work was very busy. I arrived to the office late there had been a traffic delay and was backed up for about five exits (aka three miles). I didn’t see anything but it probably got cleared away by the time I went through. I wo...

You would never Know

You would never know today was Columbus Day or a federal holiday. Traffic was pretty steady for some (mine was okay). Some banks were open. I still had my regular volume of mail. There was nearly 470 pieces of mail. The rest of the time I scanned EOB’s. I did it for about an hour in the morning and then after I finished the mail. We have been given permission to work OT for every night and possibly on Saturday. I will be taking advantage of that this week. I put in an hour tonight. We got an update from AC regarding G today. It seems that she is having a few set backs in her legs and her back. She can’t seem to stand straight or walk as well as she was hoping. I feel terrible because I haven’t called her and I don’t know when a good time is. I don’t feel comfortable doing it from work. By the time I get home I am too tired and I don’t know if or when she is sleeping. I met with Debra and talked about the week’s events and activities. They include my aggravations, and disappoin...

The Quarantine has been lifted

Well my schedule for tomorrow has changed. The quarantine has been lifted. I spoke to Angela and she told me it was lifted earlier this week (naturally). It would really be nice if they called and told me! I called M&T to let them know I will be late to the canvassing tomorrow. That means I will be delayed getting to the Carlene’s wake and to SIL. I started putting the summer wardrobe away for the season. I asked Mom to help me with it and she did. She suggested I get rid of clothes I won’t be wearing much of. I don’t know if there are more autumn clothes upstairs but I think I may have enough for now. I also am going to be using short sleeved blouses that are dark or even white blouses with sweaters over them. I still have a lot of ironing to do but I have been puttering around mostly. I had the spicy pork for lunch there were already cut slices and it was good. Mom took off the coating of spices the recipe called for because it was too much. It was good nonetheless. ...

The rest of my day

As I sit here trying to decompress from Manic Monday I can actually say it was a pretty good day. There were over three hundred pieces of mail from the Post office and very little had to be sent back. There were a few things that have to be readdressed but that can be done tomorrow. I still have to finish the pile of lockbox and then sort and deliver but again that can be done tomorrow as I plan on getting into work early. Today I did a phone survey/interview from a fellow co-worker Kelly P who works in Registration. It was a five question survey on how to make the work place better. I mentioned not having bulk mailings such as the CT medical society (or things of that nature sent to the office but the MD’s homes). When changes are implanted and asked to be relayed to staff members it should be done. I also made mention that peoples attitudes need to be looked at. I let a few people know including Elia V who is a union steward/organizer. She said not to worry about what was said a...

Another Monday draws to a close

As another Monday drifts off into a memory I am sitting here thinking what memories I will remember fondly and what memories I will try and forget? There were many. My bus ride was pretty good. A man got on in West Haven and didn’t have enough change. He clearly had issues and I couldn’t begin to tell you what they were. He didn’t have enough money for the bus fair. I gave him a dollar. He said he would use on the next leg of his journey since this bus driver gave him a pass. Did I do the right thing? I don’t know. Work was hectic. I had not received the bulk of the lockbox and when I do it will be a lot. Volume wise the post office mail seemed heavy. I had to stay until 5:30 to make sure the bulk of it was done and delivered. I was almost finished with readdress mail from last week but got more today. My first priority tomorrow though will be the postage tallies (I had over 100 pieces). I was really annoyed that once again someone was stupid enough to send cash for payment for a visi...

Pizza Day

As I mentioned in the previous entry today was Pizza Day in Appreciation for a job well done for Month and FY end. Even though we don’t know the final numbers yet (the numbers are still being crunched) this was MAD’s way of thanking us. They bought 31 or 35 pizza pies of different varieties. I ended up having four slices. For desserts they had fruit and brownies. They gave out bottle water made especially for Yale University. There were lots left over because many people either took off for the rest of the week or had parties of their own. I had my session with Debra at 11:30 so I asked the girls to save me some slices. We said Goodbye to RachelR today. RachelR is also SR’s Daughter. She has been with us for a long time. She would work with us on school breaks and finally worked with us full time after graduation. Well she is going to be working in the Big City at Mount Sinai Hospital. The mail volume was okay I worked on all of it until 3:30 today just like yesterday. I barel...

Christmas Recess Begins

Today the 2011 Yale Christmas Recess begins. For the next week some departments and schools in the University will be officially closed so that we can celebrate the Christmas Holiday. There are some offices such as mine who post cash and do accounts receivable that will be open but shorter hours if we choose to. I plan on working every day in the days ahead. Many of my co-workers keep telling me that the taxes will be taken out will not be worth coming in. No one will be working on Monday for either Christmas or New Year’s Day. During recess we get to dress more casually. My intention was to take the bus in but I have a lot to do so I am going to drive in and then finish the shopping after work. It will allow me to be done with the shopping and home sooner then if I had taken the bus. I want to check some emails before getting ready so I will chat with you later…

Full Moon

I swear there is definitely a full moon out. I have seen it twice. This morning I passed out the flyer that Gayle made last night as an FYI about Terry’s husband. Well some jack-hole noticed some spelling errors and criticized it. They suggested that who ever wrote it up should use spell check. Said Jack-hole was on the elevator with me a while later and asked me who wrote up the flyer and I looked at her and simply said yes Sharon I heard you the first time. She then asked if I wrote it up and I looked at her and said no. Who the fuck cares? I told a few people and all agreed it doesn’t matter. One shared a story on how “Jack-hole wrote notes in to various accounts she was working on and they were very poor in spelling. When I heard that I laughed so hard. The little girl (she is probably 18) that I have taken a dislike to came to work in really short shorts. Gayle noticed it too. She ended up changing later on she was in a dress when last saw her. Now that I think about it I did...

April Fool's Day

Well I think we got our April fool’s Day joke weather wise. Even though it was cold there was no snow. All we go was rain. The temperatures for most of today seem to get no higher than 40*F. I didn’t see or feel any highway powerful winds. I am looking out my back window right now and the trees seem calm. Today was supposed to be the day where I had all the readdress mail taken care of before I left. Both Janet and I worked our asses off doing our various duties. Janet is now doing the whole batching process. We found out yesterday that Frank’s assignment for now was over. So now she is not only doing his job (all the other stuff she was doing) and now mine (along with trying to help me with the readdress mail). Today this magazine came for all the doctors. I still have a box and half left of the stuff from previous weeks. My goal was to have a better turn around. Let’s just say everything I touched didn’t work out that way. I was getting stressed over getting a few documents to J...

As Expected

As expected it has been a busy first day back. I had no power to speak of for about the first hour. It was fixed by 9 or 9:30. Everyone was coming and going in here because of refunds that had to be done. It has quieted down now. Lockbox seems to be semi normal. I suspect by the end of the day I will have finished it. I am not sure what to expect for the Post office mail to be like. I used to be able to judge when I first started this job many years ago but now not at all. I have been showing baby Nelly’s pictures to a number of people here. They all have said he is adorable and congratulated me. I did call Liz and Nelson and they were doing well. They had a quiet rest of the weekend. Nelson said they went up for a Doo whop show after baby Nelly came in. Apparently the birth was relatively quick. Liz says they won’t go up until they are invited. I want to take this opportunity to wish Ned Lamont (Businessman, Entrepreneur) a Happy Birthday. He campaigned for two office...

Christmas Recess 2010

Well it is here Christmas Recess 2010 has begun. I have been here since 8:05 and I am not sure just how many people are here. We have to sign in with Claudia. I know there are at least three people of my team here. I was afraid I would be in this office alone. The best part of Recess aside from the hours is being able to dress down. I mean I don’t normally get into suits or skirts. My wardrobe is usually business casual. I have worn skirts and dresses before but it is hard to do when you are bending over or something. Mom was a bit concerned when she saw me in the jeans but I explained to her its recess as of today. She nearly panicked for a minute because she thought it was Christmas Eve. After work I will head over to the pups and give them there walk and then head back to the house to do some stuff. Mom urged me not to over do it. I just want to make sure things are done. I just know I have left things undone for the holiday. Many of my family members (cousins mostly) ...

So Far So Good

Well so far so good. I got up rather late and rushed around again but made it on time to work. (Pats self on back.) Mom was up when I left. She reminded me to take the soup and I did. I am currently ripping (that makes me nervous by the way) one of my Celtic CD’s to this hard drive. I showed Joan my CD collection and she was surprised and a little confused. She said that Cami can’t go on a rage and rant when this happens she has herself to blame. She needs to follow rules. Aw Susan R (my manager) became a new puppy owner this weekend. He is a Terrier mix and his name is Ed. She is showing pictures all over the place. He is gorgeous. It seems like Joanie is having problems with her IDX this morning. That’s not a good sign. She must be going nuts over this. Oh she must have clicked on something that made it change its viewing. Steve helped her. Gayle arrived around 9:30 with Karen the newbie. Annette took her to her seat. I haven’t seen Cami yet-oh I take that back sh...

I need to have

I really need to go back to LensCrafters® and have them check my glasses. Every time I take my glasses off and put them on it feels like they can’t focus or I see double. I think it started back the night after I literally slept on them and found the left lens popped out. I put it back in but I don’t think I did it right. It seems fine once I put them on but it just feels strange. I woke up around 2 this morning for a bathroom run. I noticed my left ankle/foot was doing pretty well until I was awake for a while. The right ankle felt like someone was putting one of those vices on it while I was walking. I may just have to keep taking the “tramadol”® until this passes. I stayed awake for a while so I did my routine of surfing the net until I got tired again. I am not sure why else I stayed up but I felt rested. The only problem is I wanted to be up by five so I could do some things before work. (That didn’t happen) I was really glad to see one of my co-workers Wendy return from...
