Dear Friends

January 25, 2014 Dear Friends:     Well its after 1 and I managed to get the shopping done by Noon but got home just a little before 1.    I really didn’t have to get much and that was a plus but the people at a couple of the stores were slow moving.  Ack!!! Part of the reason why it took me so long to get home is while I was still in the parking lot of Shop Rite I called Liz and we chatted about what/who else? Mom.  We talked about the visit with Father Callahan yesterday and what was done (anointing of the sick vs. last rites).  Apparently they both cover it but we won’t get into long discussions with Mom over it.    WE talked about giving the eulogy.  Mom wants all three of us to do.  She only asked Liz and perhaps Jim about it but she hasn’t said anything to me-yet!  Jim and Liz discussed it last night on the phone.  Apparently I am supposed to read a poem.   I told Liz I feel very stupid being in t...

mom's surgery

Well good morning everyone. IT is after 10 and I am working on today’s mail. The mail from the post office should arrive any moment now. I got up fairly early to be getting some things done before taking Mom to the hospital for her surgery. I did get to watch some TV before showering and ironing and dressing. It was the show Alias. It wasn’t a fan favorite of mine but I did see it from time to time (I seem to recall watching the series finale when it aired). Mom got up around 6:40 and I finished getting dressed and she got herself ready. We left by 7:30. We had to turn around because we left the directions on her desk. After the fifteen minute drive and a circling of the hospital and going into the garage we were at the hospital by 7:58 or so. We went into the surgical waiting room we met the triage nurse and then I gave my number and headed to work. It is now after 1. I called the hospital around 1:15 and after a few moments got the info that Mom went into surgery at 10:15 and the sur...

Mom's Surgery

It was after five when we got up and started getting ready for the hospital. We got to the hospital a little before six and we were sent up to the surgical center. I was given a beeper (I empathize with the doctors who have to wear those things) while Mom was being prepped. When she was ready I was given the signal to come in. The Anesthesiologist was there talking with her. He was a little concerned over the potassium results from earlier blood tests. He had to consult with someone and do some retests. They turned out to be okay. If they hadn’t the procedure would have been scrubbed. Once the new results were available it was time for her to go. I went back to the waiting area and then decided to go home for a bit. That was after 7. I went home and had some breakfast and folded the clothes in the dryer and called Liz. She was at work. I told her how things had progressed so far and then we hung up. I made a quick call to Bob. I watched TV while I had my breakfast and then it was getti...
