Veteran's Day 2016

To all those who reading, following this blog and are currently or formerly in the Military I send my thanks to you for dedication of service and to our protection of freedoms.

Many are taking today off.  Some schools have a holiday while others do not.  I am not sure what the rationale is behind that but here at the University we don’t have all the US holidays off.  That’s why we have the ten day recess in December.  So I have been told.  All the parades and services were earlier this week.

I tried to take  another route to work this morning.  If I continue to take the same route I need to leave at least 15 minutes earlier than I did this morning.  I am tired of being frustrated with 95 (like everyone else is).  Luckily the traffic was lighter than usual but it could have been because of the holiday.

Today was quiet and I had done some mail and personal refunds all in the morning The afternoon consisted of readdress mail, and straightening up .

Tonight I had spaghetti with wheat pasta very nice.  It didn’t fill me but I had enough that I don’t want anymore tonight.  I was going to make the meatloaf but I need to review the ingredients.  I actually have to get a few more things so i will do it tomorrow.

I have finally been getting a few calls about the auction.  A couple of people wanted to donate stuff and so I just made arrangements to meet someone tomorrow to pick it up and I will have to take to Janet's house but she told me on the phone tonight that after this we can’t accept anymore.  It is very early meet so I will be getting ready for bed soon.  I did actually get a couple of people to want tickets.

Well i am going to have say good night as i am getting tired.  Be well everyone.

Memorial Day 2015

As the holiday and long weekend draw to another close.  I am sitting here in bed as this was my day (another lazy one).  I did some channel surfing and landing on CSI (the original) for most of the day.  I don’t normally watch that but figured I would today since it is going to be cancelled soon.

I have enjoyed many of the online Memorial Day wishes that I saw on Facebook.  Many were from friends and some from family.  When I did have the news on there were many Memorial Day activities around the state.

I had a chance to talk to Liz while she was on her way to a meeting.  We talked about how we spent the day.  She spent most of it with Nelson having a mini picnic dinner and having visitors like his sister and his daughter.  She spent some time in her flower beds/gardens and various household chores.

I also reached out to my cousin Maura in Austin TX where they are in the middle of severe weather (ranging from heavy thunder storms, flooding, and tornadoes.  I asked if she and her family were safe and she said “safe but wet”.  I am hoping that included the whole family but can send an email to my Aunt to just to be sure.

Tuesday is back to work and my day to prepare for the rest of the week.  I have to make sure the spare room is ready for Jim if he does get to come up for the Scholarship presentation.  I have to make sure the outfits I plan on wearing are in shape.  They are already washed now they have to be ironed.  At some point I have to write up the 4th District Minutes.

Wednesday is the first of the two Scholarship presentations and it this one starts at 7 and is at Jonathan Law HS on the other side of town.  I believe there is a reception prior to the event but I am not sure if we will be attending it depends on what my sister wants to do.

Thursday is the final scholarship presentation and will be at My alma Mater Joseph A Foran and that is at 5:30 but we have to be there by 5:15.  It is the same night as the DTC and I don’t expect to be going to that at all but I just may wait and see.

I need to print out the information from the Guidance counselors from my email and make sure I have the right locations and get it to Liz on time.

Friday is going to be a work day and my quiet night.  Probably relax as I have a long afternoon the next day.

Saturday will be the Celebration of Life for my friend’s Mom Ruth.  I will probably wear one of the two outfits from the scholarship presentations to that and then bring a change of clothing for Bry's grad party.

I am thinking of going to the nursing home and do bingo on Sunday.  I haven’t spoken to Natalie about it yet.  I may call her on Friday and see if she would mind (yeah like she would mind).

Well I am going to get going.  SKy is already sleeping at my feet and I am not sure where Tiger went to.

Have a great night.

Veteran's Day 2011

Veteran’s Day 2011 will be drawing to a close shortly. Most of the state either had some parades or ceremonies honoring those who have served and fought for the US. Most schools had been closed as well as banks and post offices. The News reports focused on the current job market and unemployment about the veterans and those who have PTSD.

The MYWC and Girls Club Volunteer Organization had our annual Veteran’s Day Service at the West River Nursing home on Orange Avenue today. I am not sure how it went but it usually is a very nice hour long service. We usually have music (singing), Flag folding presentations, History of Veteran’s Day. Then we encourage the residents who are veteran’s tell us their memories of being in the Armed Forces. We also had given them little gifts (candy and blankets) this year. I couldn’t attend because I had to work.

Work went well. I had very little mail to open which allowed me to work on other things that have been gathering. By no means does that mean I have caught up on it. I still have a lot of re-address mail to catch up on. The bus rides were uneventful. The morning bus was full until I got off but the bus ride home was very light.

I was greeted by the Dalmatians Sawyer and Simon today and I loved it. Papa Chris 2 came out thinking they were making noise but we had chatted. We didn’t chat too long as it was pretty chilly and I wanted to get inside.

Mom was making Salmon and macaroni and cheese for dinner. It was delicious. Mom didn’t have the macaroni and cheese as she has discovered this week that she has become lactose intolerant. All week long she has been looking at lactose free diets. She even bought Silk Milk now.

The rest of the night was spent quietly. I watched NCIS until about 8:30-9 and then I took a nap and woke up around the time I started this entry. I am not sure how much longer I will be up. I may just surf the web for a little bit longer.

Thank you to all the Veterans for all that you have done to serve and protect our country from a grateful nation. My prayers and thoughts are with you. Especially to my cousins, nephews, and friends who currently are serving around the country.

Good night.

Last Day of Vacation

Considering that today is my last day of vacation.   I am going to make sure things that were not done (housework mostly) are done...
