Dear Mom

Dear Mom     It is a beautiful morning.  The sun is shining but I am not sure for how long.  I have heard conflicting weather reports at least half dozen times.     I emailed Liz this morning to let her know the cards had come and we agreed (at least I think) to have me sign all of our names to the cards for Greg and his brothers.  She is going to pay half but I wasn’t sure how much.  So I will get those out sometime today.     She tells me Jason told her that Audrey got a card for her birthday and he thought it was for both of them.  That is until Grandma told him it wasn’t his birthday yet.  It was too funny.  I was wondering if she got the card.  Now I am trying to remember when Jason’s birthday is before I forget.   I just realized it is Adam’s Birthday as well.  I can’t find his email anywhere but I do know of his google profile but no email.  The same for Olga.  We...

How Cool

Image
I had just come home from church and was about to pick up the hose outside and wash down the front porch and I noticed this baby rabbit.   It just sat there until I tapped it and then began to hop away.   It made it as far as the window (and by now farther than that) when it saw its reflection but I was really surprised it did leap or do something earlier. I spent part of the morning getting my summer clothes out and freshened up and still have more to do but I can do that after I get the green stuff off the porch. Mom is doctoring up the rice and steak dinner we had last night with sauce and mozzarella.   It does sound good as I have been hungry for the past hour. I have been answering emails and clearing out some of them from the inbox.   I have already answered the roll call check in and replied to earlier posts.   Mom has been washing the kitchen floor and I went to subway for lunch. I am also watching NCIS marathon.

Eventful Friday

As I was sitting at work yesterday working on  the mail my thoughts were drifting to Macungie where my nephew was sitting through his graduation ceremonies.  I wondered if they were indoors because of the rain.  It was pretty likely that was the case there are venues that big for it.  I was having flashbacks to the day I met him.  He was just two when Jim and Claudia brought him home and he had a limp for a while.  He was shy at first but by the fourth time I saw him I think we grew close.  Over the years I watched him grow he was a smart young man.  Any time they came for a visit he always helped Mom make breakfast.  As he got older he didn’t do it as much.   As he got older and his parents divorced he spent a lot of time with his father.  He also had his friends and his sports but he made sure he spent time with Jim.  That might change now that he will be attending Blair Academy in the fall.  I spoke t...

A Lovely Afternoon

Spent a lovely afternoon at the Mercy Center to hear a friends poetry reading as well as music and art.  Each of them experienced life threatening events and learned how to deal with it through different aspects of art.  It really was a lovely way to spend a rainy afternoon. The only downside was I had been sneezing and sniffling through the entire day and I just was beginning to feel miserable.  It all started before I left for bingo.  I am thinking that the pollen and the rain started it all for me.   I left the house just after 8:30 my plans to attend an early mass went out the window and so I headed to Dunkin donuts for breakfast.  I went to the nursing home and had breakfast and then went in and hung around.  I was there before everyone came in.  AFter awhile people came in and so I spent time chatting.  Time sort of just got away from us and then we got ready for bingo.  We did start on time and finished on time...

No Snow yet

The snow has not arrived yet but  from the looks of the sky I will say it will be very soon.  Once I finish my morning activities I will be home for the rest of the day.  I should be back here by 12:30. My plans are quite simple laundry, watching NCIS marathon, and finishing up the three Thank you notes I have left to do.  I do have to make phone squad messages and that I can do later. I got a text message from Jim last night.  He loves the DVD of NCIS that Mom gave him for Christmas.   He offered to re-gift it to me and he would get a new one for himself.  I sent back that’s very sweet but don’t have to.  The next time I come for a visit we can have a marathon.  I personally don’t like re-gifting per se.  I think its awful and really rude.  I don’t mind if its food but if it is an actual gift I do mind. Mom is already downstairs having coffee and reading her paper.  We nearly collided in the hallway.  I got first dib...

Crazy Busy

Image
Today was crazy busy.   There was road work down the street from our street and it caused a back up (It was the Oyster river repair job).   The commute home was even nuttier. There was a traffic delay from Fair Haven all the way to West Haven and so I had to take the long way around.   I got home for dinner by 6:40. When I did get to work I found lockbox waiting for me.   Before getting started I think I went and picked up stuff from ITS.   I spent the day working on the mail and got it done by 1:30.   I also worked on Re-address mail as well.   I made a dent in the Medical Society stuff.   From 2 pm until 6 I was scanning.   I have to tally the numbers to see how much I got done for Scanning. Speaking of which I just wrote to Mardi about Friday, originally I told her that I might be working but I found out today that there is no approved OT for scanning only Cash posting.   There is approved OT for Scanning and Cash posting...

It would seem

It seems I have a middle ear infection.   The nice MD (who apparently doesn’t age) prescribed antibiotics and ear drops.   There was some confusion on one and the other isn’t available or isn’t being paid for by the insurance company.   I managed to access the patient portal for the Internal Medicine and left messages.   I am just waiting to hear from them.   I will pick up the Azithromycin tomorrow either before or after the oral surgery.   It was nearly lunch time when I got back to the office.   The mail was waiting for me and I got to it.   I spent the afternoon working on it and now have only a small handful left that I will add to the mail from tomorrow.   I had a scallop roll/sandwich from Szabo’s and it was delicious.   There were fries with it and a soda all for $9.   It was quite good.   After lunch I continued to work on the mail until it was time to go home. Ethel called me this afternoon trying to ...

Hurricane Sandy 750-11:55 pm

Image
Well shortly after I posted the last entry I looked out my window and saw the moon.   The clouds were moving and it peaked out a few times after that.   It was then I decided that I would go out for a short walk.   Neighbor Don and Neighbor Pam came a long too.   We saw the road being blocked off by the beach.   TV station Channel 30 was filming the waves coming over the wall onto the street.   As we walked back to our houses we saw a flash of light.   We think it was a transformer.      We took a look at the river out back and it is just below our street.   We also noticed something floating along the river.   It was the Dollar store’s dumpster. I checked several times entries on Facebook, and almost twitter.   More and more people in my area are losing their power.   Other friends of mine across town have been evacuated.   Just a short while ago we got another reverse 911 call.   My friend...

Calm before the storm

Image
Despite almost getting into an accident this morning the day went pretty well.   I was coming around the bend on a street and a car was coming from the opposite direction and we nearly collided.   I swerved and avoided the car.   I lookd back and the car was just sitting there.   They were just as much at fault as I was. I talked with Sis this morning and they are fine.   She reminded me that if it gets bad that we could stay with them (nice offer).   I thanked her and told her we should be okay.   We were not really worried about the storm. Governor Malloy issued a state of Emergency for the state (it’s not for another two days guy) in preparation for the storm.   I still say they are over-reacting to this but maybe they have to in lieu of what happened last year.   Work went well.   I got to the office around 11:30 and worked for two and half hours.   Mama Joanie, JanetN, and AnnetteC were there along with many ot...

The rest of my day

As I sit here trying to decompress from Manic Monday I can actually say it was a pretty good day. There were over three hundred pieces of mail from the Post office and very little had to be sent back. There were a few things that have to be readdressed but that can be done tomorrow. I still have to finish the pile of lockbox and then sort and deliver but again that can be done tomorrow as I plan on getting into work early. Today I did a phone survey/interview from a fellow co-worker Kelly P who works in Registration. It was a five question survey on how to make the work place better. I mentioned not having bulk mailings such as the CT medical society (or things of that nature sent to the office but the MD’s homes). When changes are implanted and asked to be relayed to staff members it should be done. I also made mention that peoples attitudes need to be looked at. I let a few people know including Elia V who is a union steward/organizer. She said not to worry about what was said a...

I found it

Do you remember when I wrote yesterday I couldn’t find what I had planned on writing and posting? Well I found it. Right now I am trying to get thank you notes written before Mom has a melt down. Work went well. I finished yesterday’s mail early in the morning and then worked on today’s. I was concerned again I wouldn’t be able to finish it all by the time I left but I was. The only thing I didn’t get to do is a lot of the re-address mail. I have gotten some labels ready but I have more to do. Again I hope I can focus on that tomorrow. I managed to catch the 4:15 bus home and it was a lovely walk. I got to see Sawyer for a little bit. Chris #1 was fixing his car door. He was having some problems with it. Mom came home around 5:30. She started getting dinner ready. That’s about the time I got a call from Ethel. She was really uncomfortable with her boarder. So I spent time with her and then brought her home for dinner. He stayed in the house. She wrote a letter asking both ...

Another Letter to Debra

Dear Debra: It is nearly 8 in the morning and I have been out of bed a short time. Enough time to start the laundry and have a cup of coffee, and get some emails read. It is a beautiful sunny morning. It was a cool 65 degrees but it’s expected to get into the 70’s. The percentages regarding the humidity confuse me. I don’t know if 65% is bad, good, or horrible. Does that mean its going to rain? Mom is in her office on the computer. She has ordered tickets for tomorrow’s performance but had difficulties with it. I don’t know how to do that because I rarely if ever order tickets on line. She is going to call the box office later and see what the problem is. I asked her what she was planning on doing and she basically said grocery shopping and her ironing. That will also include what ever comes up. She doesn’t have real solid plans I guess. But neither do I. I just got another batch of emails from the Lupus support email group I have been a part of for a while now. I just...

Dear Debra

Dear Debra: Friday was just not the best day for me. I over slept that morning; left my ID holder with my license, and work ID and a CC at home. I spilled not only my breakfast but my lunch on my shirt. I was a walking mess. I was exhausted by the time I left the office. I was spoiling for a fight with a driver in front of me. He just cut me off at the Union Avenue and Church Street South intersection. When I caught up with him at the bottom of Church Street South and Sargent Drive I took more pictures and he came to my car demanding to know what I was doing. I didn’t open the window I just looked at him and said having you arrested. What he did was reckless especially in the rain. I had no idea he was going to do that. He didn’t pursue it but I wasn’t going to back down. Despite my late start of the day (I did manage to get to work on time. I drove in to work and nearly clipped a co-workers car when she performed “right turn on red” w...

Summer Camps

I was wondering lately about summer camps. Now that summer is in full swing do you send your kids to summer camp? Where do you find them? I recently checked out this site and it looked like a really good resource of day camps and residential camps all over the country and specialized programs. There even some right at Yale University. I can probably expect to see young people around the campus as well this year. I did notice that some camps start in mid June. There are a lot of school systems that finish late don’t they? I have been to two residential camps (maybe three with my family). One was in Sharon CT (a Girl Scout camp from hell) and a Boy Scout camp in Winsted. My explorer post went to that one for a week every summer to learn things about the police department. The third one was for camping and they had activities. It was called World Fellowship in New Hampshire. Two of my cousins worked there during a few summers. Anyway, when I would visit the sites for the camps...

It's over

Jurors today in the Cheshire Home invasion Murder trial sentenced Komisarjevsky to Death. The decision was reached by 3 pm this afternoon. I am not sure that putting these dirt bags to death will do anything. They should be made to live with the knowledge of what they did to these people for the rest of their lives. It also costs more money to put them to death according to Mom. People have commented that it will take years before either of them will be put to death. Anyway, I would imagine most of you have seen it if you are not in CT. I am sure it was on the network newscasts tonight. Today was a good day. I got up around 5 and ironed my clothes for work. I went back to bed for a while and around six I got up and got ready for work. I got to the bus stop just as the bus arrived.. Today is the last day this driver has this route. Every three months the drivers on Connecticut Transit system change their routes. Some routes are being changed and from what I understand prices are go...
