New England Chapter of the Linden Hall School Alumnae Association

This past year I was invited to become a member of the New ENgland Regional/chapter Alumni Association of Linden Hall School for Girls.  In the months followed we had zoom meetings (that I ended up having to miss because of scheduling conflicts.

In early spring a few of the girls organized our first in person meeting lunch for June.  It was held at Michael’s Harborside Restaurant in Newburyport MA.  I drove up that morning while the others drove in from New Hampshire, Maine, Mass.  We spent the next couple of hours talking of our memories of our time at Linden Hall.

Near the end we got to discuss our goals and plans for the future of the chapter as we are the pilot.

We will be helping the alumnae association promote the school. We were told there is no hared Mary Dixon  Chapel.    If that's not working let  me know.  Doing this on my er. HaptE ThThe virtual  tour was an hour and let by a Debbie and one other lovely lady.  It showed the day students  lounge and the  beautiful organ.  Those of us in attendance shared memories and  asked questions.

There is a lot of interest  in other regional chapters  across  the country.

We have been given an assignment  if you will. We have to reach out to our new england sisters and encourage  them to join.  I have one for a class of 82 who lives in CT that  need to reach out too.

There are a lot of other activities coming down the pike for the Alumnae Association and although I am not going to be able to participate in all of them its nice to see.

Glad its Friday

Even though I am making progress with the mail I am still behind.  I am also trying to keep up with the claim forms but the printers have not been working since the upgrade.  So I have a couple of patients to scan to the rep.  I am also trying to keep up with CD uploading and it’s hit a snag with one of them.    Good thing? We have Monday off for Martin Luther King’s Birthday.

I almost missed the staff meeting and basically making sure we had our vaccines and boosters uploaded for them to have on record.  I did mine at lunch time.  Supervisor reviewed protocol for the time we can use (they pay for five days) it’s a one-time deal.

The printer that prints out the HFCA claim form was working by lunchtime so after the meeting and after finishing the CD uploads (yes I caught up with those) I worked on mailing out the claim forms.  I think I was done by 2:30-3 and right about then I got an email from Supervisor asking me if the printer was working.   I explained yes they were and the one claim form for one of our Reimbursement people was scanned to her (but she doesn’t have access to email as she and a few others took even longer weekend then I am.

I still have to finish the mail I was working on and sort it.  I still have to work on the Health logic correspondence as well.  Then work on everything else.  My hope is to go in early on Tuesday.  I will do the claim forms first and then the mail.

AT lunchtime I wrote another email to Attorney B2 to see if there was any progress made with Lawyer man 1.  I haven’t heard from him yet.   I am already preparing a strongly worded email to him if he doesn’t respond to this one.

It looks like I will have to do another sleep study.  The last one failed.  She is not sure what happened but it has been known to happen which it only recorded 59 minutes of sleep and that’s not enough so we scheduled another one for the 26th.  This time it will be in the lab in West Haven.  The follow up appointment was moved to February 15th in West Haven.   So I will come home and feed the cats and pack an overnight bag.  I am thinking I will take a personal day off for that week.

My fellow LH Alumnae continue to have a sad week.  One of my classmates lost her husband this week.  I don’t know the circumstances but I need to get her a card to her and her family this week.  There is an obituary finally for Mrs. Herr.  I learned many things from this obituary.  For Example she is also a member of the GFWC international organization.  She was part of woman’s club in Lititz.  I wonder if she attended any of the International conventions. I am trying to read up on Manheim.

OH and I discovered that my meetup friend Krystal was not in the Waterbury fire but this one.  I am familiar with the area.  I have been further North of there were there were some beautiful homes and such.

I had coffee tonight and surprisingly I am tired.  So I am going to take the hint and go to bed and listen to Profiles in Folk before falling  asleep.

Feeling Better

I had a great sleep last night.  I think I missed most of my Friday night radio program.  The alarms I set on the Boise still are not working but I really didn’t need one especially with the cats.

They have been fed and I have had my coffee and I have been chatting with AB on the text.  She is up early too for some reason.  She noticed I was quiet last week.  I explained that I saw they were really working hard and didn’t want to get them distracted.  I told her I kept busy during the week.

I managed to get online and found out a teacher from HS passed away yesterday.  The Obit isn’t online yet so I am not sure where she is-was from.  I sent a text to Dave because I think he had her for English during our HS careers.

I did my early morning check in with Jim.  I probably will hear from him later this morning.  I am wondering how he did at the gym yesterday.  I know he took a walk around the park across the street from his condo.  He shared to fb.

Right now I am enjoying the 66 degree cool and sunny weather from my couch.  It will be in the 70’s for most of the day and by the afternoon strong weather (translate: rain-my hope is lots of it)

This morning I have class at 8:30 will need to get ready for that shortly and my hope is to use the In-body machine to see how I am doing.  Prayers for weight loss would be great.   I have my personal training session with Alex at lunch time.

My hope is to go grocery shopping in between those two activities because I am pretty sure I will not want to go out in the thunderstorm this afternoon.

Most likely the day will end with me watching TV and on the computer writing emails.  Updating files and then sleeping.

Monday Musings

Another Monday has come and gone and the usual things happened.  The daily routine.  Yet I ended up a little late again.  Traffic wasn’t bad ( but the sun is going to get me killed one day).

I was also going to get some things done before Livia came today.  The only thing I managed was to get the sheets out for the bed.  I wrote out a check for her to include the Christmas bonus.  The next time she is supposed to come is during Christmas week.

Oh man...I forgot to track Saturday’s food intake.  The only thing I remember having is peas.  I had ribs i think for breakfast and lunch is really fuzzy.  I wasn’t sure how to show Alex my daily food diary until it hit me.  From the website! So I did yesterdays.  I get the feeling he is a tad pissed at me.

He hasn’t put me on his Team for the next Challenge in January.  He hasn’t replied to me about the recipes I sent him.  NOr has he responded to my texts about the steps or the fact I will be at class late tonight.

Mid Morning I discovered that I had to do the mail.  DG was out.  I didn’t realize it until I went and got more batches to scan.  So worked on the scanning until 11. From 11 to 3 I worked on as much mail possible.

Started to check through the mail from Friday and I was getting aggravated.  It looked like she was just throwing stuff together to get out in time for home.

I was thrilled today when I got a reminder about the water bill.  I missed the original one somehow.  Anyway I was pleasantly surprised it wasn’t in the triple digits.  I am wondering if this meter is the reason for such a low bill?

I left the office at three. Hoping I could get my bloodwork done before.  Unfortunately the quest waiting room seemed active so I went in checked in at Sonia's and found out Dr Sonia was running an hour late. Ran back to quest got the lab work done.  After that came back and continued to wait.
Shortly before 5 I was taken in and had triage and then actually saw Dr. Sonia. I told her about the A1C and the Osteopenia diagnosis.

After my appointment I headed to the gym.  Not before calling Mama Roberta.  We touched on the email and wanted to chat with her.  We got disconnected a couple of times.  She is coming back east in january (Florida primarily).  March is still good for them for my visit.  Her Daughter Miriam and boyfriend will be visiting them next week.  Roberta is thrilled she gets to see Miriam more since she has moved to Las vegas. As I suspected she very happy she is in LV considering the weather the Carolina’s are currently experiencing.

I got to the gym by 6 and did some cardio before Alex’s class.  His class nearly killed me.  I was wimping out at some of the exercises (I had to do like 45 of one exercise).  By the time I left there i was tired and achy.  I did get a chance to talk with him.  I told him I thought he was mad at me when I did get any responses from him for not doing the bike cardio. He wasn’t.  We have our session tomorrow but won’t be there Wednesday or thursday.

After class I went to Pop’s Restaurant for dinner.  I had a mini class reunion with one of the Waitresses.  Deb Youngblood we went to school together at Live Oaks on Merwin, and later HS.  We had a great talk.  She had to go home and I finished my dinner.  I worried (as I usually do) I hope I didn’t eat like a pig in front of her.

When I got home I had a pretty full mailbox.  Between Christmas cards, test results from my OB/GYN appointment last month, and two freaking bills.  One was the car insurance due after Christmas and I just got the Oil bill.  I nearly died.  I can’t worry about that right now.

Since I have been home the kitties got fed (and now sleeping beside me on the bed each has their own side), started a small load of laundry and now hopefully get some cards written out.

Saturday Doings

Every time I have an very busy weekend I usually like to have the following weekend or part of the weekend to relax and catchup.  Today is that day.  I don't have to be anywhere if I don't need to and its pretty cold out to boot so I want to stay in with the kitties.  I have some laundry to do and some cooking but nothing that needs to be done outside.

I am sad to find out a dear friend of mine has a very sick kitty.  Jack has cancer and they don't know how long he has.  I met Jack a long time ago when I visited his Mom for our first "Andromeda" fan weekend.  At least i think that is the one.  I have followed Mardi ever since then and loved hearing about her babes.  I want her to know that we here in the  KP home are thinking of you and sending prayers.

You all remember when I wrote earlier this week that I yelled at the cats for something they did?  Well this article couldn't have come at a better time.  So since I found it on FB originally and looked into and saw some things I have found myself doing I am trying extremely hard not to do or trying to do more for them.   They still don't like getting their coats brushed.  Sky keeps trying to bite the brush and Tiger tries and walks away.  I am always checking the water bowls especially after hearing that refreshed water can cause the bug they had in early January.  I always kiss their head and body.  I speak in a calm voice all the time and work from there.  Tiger is at the foot of the bed and I am about to check on Sky.  I think he is in the box mattress again.

Got an email from DR. T today.  She had submitted an article to the GFWC International magazine Club Woman and it was posted this month.  It included our two out going girls club presidents A and J and all though I can see the entire article through the email (its probably a blurb type under the "news from around the states" section.  This is great to let the world know about what we do its always fun to read about the club.  We have been mentioned a few times over the years since we began the club.

This past week was a week to get Alumni news and reminders.  Earlier this week The Alumni Newsletter flyer arrived from Linden Hall this week.  It is a fairly different one from the ones in the past.  It had some class notes not as much as in the past (it depends on who sends stuff in. I guess).  It featured the 2015 weekend activities and staff notes as well.  I follow a couple of my classmates from LH on FB and wondered if they got it too and if they are going to this years activities.  Every year this an Alumnae Weekend and some of the classes are having their annual reunions and others get together and stuff.  I don't know if we had a 30th class reunion yet but I am sure they went to the Alumna Weekend anyway.

Endicott College is constantly having alumni gatherings all over the country and they are sponsoring a big trip to Ireland sometime this year.  On their Facebook page they recently had pictures of the snow they got this past week and how it looked on the campus.  I actually can't remember what it looked like.  i don't remember if it snowed much the year I went.

Next week is the 4th District meeting and it will be here.  I have to make sure the house stays fairly clean and neat and start looking for things to have as appetizers.  Of course finish the minutes as well.

TGIF

I don’t think I have used that title in an entry in quite some time but today was a good day to do so.  I was very busy all day and I felt I accomplished a lot and my desk still looks good.  Even though I wasn’t feeling that well in the morning but by midafternoon I was feeling better.  Then when I got home I had to go to the bathroom quick.

Since I have been home I had some quiet time with Star on the couch.  A couple of times she has tried helping me type this.  Now she is staring at me.  Sky finally came down after I had my shower.  He followed me back upstairs while I got into my pajamas.  I opened the cellar door and both had gone down but both came back up.

I saw an article post on Facebook from PetMD regarding litterboxes and problems.  I can’t find the exact one that was on Facebook but I went to the actual website and they had pretty informative articles.  One of them is to have more litterboxes than amount of cats.  Something the vet told me when I took Sky for his physical in July.  It also said that the litterboxes may have to be washed out more than is done.  I try to do it once a month but recently it took me a little longer to do it.  It also says to stay with one cat litter product that your cat likes and not go changing it all the time.

I did find the video from the cartoon about the dog and cat…I am sure all of you have seen it.  The dog finds a kitten and the kitten and the dog become fast friends and every time the kitten gets up on his back the cat scratches (or whatever) the back to get comfortable.  Every time Tiger lies on my lap or legs when I sit on the couch she does the same thing.

Some interesting school news this week.  Endicott College in Beverly now has their Alumni Bulletins online.  As promised my little email to them last year was in the class notes.  I was pleased by that and my hope is that my circle of friend during that time get to see it.  Also some of my LH Classmates get to see it too.

Speaking of Linden Hall.  I recently friended a couple of my classmates from 1982 Class President Julie on Facebook.  Actually I always thought she was but I think it may have been Denise B.  I had kept in touch with them through the years more often than not and lost touch with them.  Even though I was the class alumni rep for a few years and then I think Julie took over.  I think I saw Julie at the last big reunion but I didn’t see Denise at least I don’t remember if I did.  But I did find out I found out Denise has been living in CT.

There was an article posted to the Linden Hall Sisters Facebook page announcing the Wilbur Chocolate factory that has been a mainstay of Lititz would be closing or moving.  Everyone who has posted remembered the chocolate smell that would waft through the town every day.  My vivid memory was the chocolate smell would happen just about the same time as the pretzel factory across the street from the dorms were making the pretzels and the lovely smell of horse shit from the stables around the corner.  Yum.

The Administration, Faculty, staff, and students all attended the annual Mount Gretna Day.  It is an official Skip school day where everyone goes and has day of fun.  There was skating, picnics, and all around fun.  I don’t remember much else of it but I do remember meeting my guidance counselor.  Mrs. Misch.  She lived across the street from the school in Lititz.  I remember seeing her when I went for the 25th class reunion.  This year the fun continued in the dorms when they returned from the day.  In one of the dorms they had a Halloween party.  It looks like they had fun.

There isn’t much on TV tonight that I have resorted to watching/listening to Music Choice Channels Sounds of the Season…theme this week? Halloween.  That’s Okay the computer needs to get charged.

Have a great night…

Haven't been up long

I haven’t been up too long and it felt great. Mom was up before me and reading her paper and having her morning coffee. I am not sure what she is doing today. I have my morning events minus church so I probably will see Sis.

It looks like some of my classmates from Live Oaks School class of 77 had a mini-reunion in Florida. These four live in Florida near each other (well most of them do). I am not sure what they did probably have dinner and took pictures. It would be good if some of us could do that now. Mom’s class of 44 does that all the time and then when it is time for their big reunion they get together again. Unfortunately her class is getting smaller and smaller.
I can’t believe it is in the mid 70’s at 8 in the morning. Some one yesterday mentioned it will be a very hot summer and it is starting already. Yes it certainly is. I don’t always mind it I like it (until the sweat pours off my face or into my eyes).
I just have a few things to do today like I said but I hope to get them done early enough to enjoy the day. I do have to make sure what ever I am wearing tomorrow is ready because I am also attending a fundraising/Meet and Greet with Congresswoman DeLauro after work.

The evening is almost over

It is weird how fast the night goes by when you come home late from the work day. As you all know I worked until 4:30. I was able to finish the Post office mail but started working on the rest of lockbox. I also spent some time putting away stuff. I made some deliveries for Gayle and she wondered why I was still in the office. I told her I had an appointment at 5. She did tell me that she is trying to get me help with the mail. She also wanted me to know that next Monday the VIP’s from NEMG will be touring the office so we need to clear everything off. That means all the junk mail that is currently under my desk. All this news really made me anxious. On one hand I do need and some times want the help but on the other there may not be enough mail (I mean once I get the junk mail out of the way).

My session with Debra went very well. We concentrated mostly on family stuff. On the possibility of death and what would happen to Mom and what would happen to me? How would I deal with all of it? We are meeting next Monday at our regular time. I explained to her that the inaugural activities are that night for Ben Blake and I need to be there.

One thing we agreed or thought about was how things were going between Mom and me. I and knocked on wood said things are going well. We acknowledged it comes in cycles. Well when I got home tonight I wasn’t sure if things were alright. Mom seemed peeved or something. I looked at the mail and noticed she opened my Macy’s bill. She says she tossed it and then opened it to see if it was ads. When I noticed it was open I mentioned it. As I am sitting here thinking about it something isn’t working for me. First of all I hate when you do this. It clearly has my name on and you shouldn’t be throwing out anything unless I tell you too. I really suspect she was checking on my bills. I am going to let it slide but if she does it again I am going to tell her to stop.

Oh and I was worried I had a high bill with Macy’s. Its not! I will get it off the books though.

Dinner was absolutely delicious. We had home made stew and it was peppery but not too strong. On the side we had roasted potatoes.

I just got notification that a classmate of mine accepted my friendship on Facebook. He was always a cute guy and from the pictures he hasn’t changed much. I hope he stays in contact with me.

Okay its time for me to hit the hay. I have a long day tomorrow. Hugs and love to you all.

My class reunion

I have been up for about 30 minutes. I started my laundry early so I won’t have to worry about it later. I am thinking I will wear the outfit I had on for Adam and Olga’s reception. I probably will change my mind again later. Wanda G did say it was casual.

It is over cast and cold out right now but no snow or rain yet. I need to get ready for the canvassing at the headquarters. I will probably do that for about two hours and then come home and do more stuff for tonight.

According to Weather.com the storm has already started in the Mid-Atlantic States and is heading this way. I may check blogs to see if anyone is up this early writing about it.

I left the house around 9 and went to the bank and then headed to the headquarters. Ben and Rich were on a conference call with the printers about the latest mailing they needed changes on it. After a while Seny and I were given the route we would be covering and instructions and off we went.

We had the Naugatuck Avenue area. That included some streets off it that were dead end streets and very interesting to see. We covered a few streets when just around 11 it started to rain. We headed back to the headquarters and Alex and Justin were there. Justin had taken some high school girls around to canvas as well. They had just as much luck as we did. Some people were not home or they were just waking up.

I was back home by 12. I had lunch and watched TV. Mom was doing odds and ends around the house. I manage to fold clothes and put the others in the dryer going they had to be put through again.

It started snowing around 12:30. It’s been heavy flakes and of course sticking to most everything. Mom was thinking that the reunion was cancelled and I told her no that it was still planned for tonight.

Mom went shopping and got back by 2:15 or so. She maintained that the reunion would be cancelled. I was getting frustrated a little because apparently she didn’t hear me the first time I said it. I keep checking the Facebook page and it says the same thing.

Got a call from Dave this afternoon he cancelled his party for tonight and rescheduled it for tomorrow afternoon. I plan on going right before I go to Liz’s house to see baby Nelly.

I decided to take a nap for about an hour before getting ready for this event. A part of me is really nervous as I haven’t seen some of these people in years and the fact the event may be cancelled.

The nervousness about it being cancelled was laid to rest when Wanda posted a message confirming that it is still on.

I arrived there early even though it was still Sleeting. I was greeted by Amy O, Wanda G, and Carey G. Eventually more and more people came. The grand total came to 80 people. Some I remembered some I didn’t. We ate and took pictures and told stories of health and family. I left around 9 and it was snowing again.

I was home by 9:30 and told Mom about and posted on my Facebook page. I do know there were some pictures of me and we got a cd of the music of 1981.

I have a feeling there are still a lot of people there and Many of them were planning on getting together again soon.

I have been trying to find my yearbook but no luck. Maybe tomorrow…when I am more awake.

Last Day of Vacation

Considering that today is my last day of vacation.   I am going to make sure things that were not done (housework mostly) are done...
