Busy Weekend

I am glad last night was a fairly quiet night.  I did some laundry and had dinner and watched TV for a while.  I didn’t get on the computer much.  I was getting tired.

I did get an invitation to the Municipal Inauguration next Tuesday at Parson’s complex.  Its early but it lasts two hours.  Everyone who was elected to boards and commissions and offices of Mayor and CIty Clerk will be sworn in.  I have gone every year since our Mayor was elected.

I also got two phone calls.  One was from the woman who ordered five tickets and reserved a table for the AUction tomorrow night.  She wanted to give me her phone number.  She was flighty.  As of our conversation she didn’t receive the tickets.  I mailed them out Sunday.  I told her to call me if she didn’t get them.

The other call was from the Cardiologist’s office they needed to change the appointment in December to January 2 (the day we come back to work).  I believe it's 2 in the afternoon.  Will have to call them and confirm.

So why is it a busy weekend?  For me we are setting up tonight and tomorrow for the Ladies Guild Auction and Dinner.  YOu have read it's our biggest fundraiser of the year.  I need to get money to do the raffles!  It starts at 6:30 tomorrow night and it should be fun.  I think I will wear the purple pantsuit I just got out of the cleaners.

In New Haven the city and the University is preparing for the biggest sports event of the year.  The annual Yale VS Harvard game is tomorrow afternoon.  It's been featured on at least one news station (the only one I watch) and it's been bantered about around at work.  Handsome Dan 18 will be there too.  He is the 1 year 48 lb Mascot for Yale.  It certainly will tie up traffic around the Bowl not sure if downtown will be affected by this or not.  Maybe for those who come in from out of town.  What I mean by that is if they go to the local businesses during the weekend.  I just hope the rain that’s before predicted holds off.

Sunday morning will be grocery shopping and some letter writing before going off to Bingo and perhaps go to church.  Then of course it's getting ready to go back work.

Huge Success

It is the morning after the Auction and I would have to say it was a huge success.  There were about 90 people in attendance.  The food was great and the auction was fun.  I managed to bid on a few items (such as movie basket, and some other things) I made myself a limit on the bids no higher than $50.

Liz called me on my way to pick her up (I was going to be early anyway) and said she was running late and she would meet me there.  I really was not surprised but I was a little annoyed.  She doesn’t realize how much she is like Mom in that aspect but there was no reason to make her feel worse about it.  I stopped at Walgreen’s and got money and then headed to the school.

I was early so I waited for a bit and then voila! Lights on and i went in and took my place.  I found a table for LIz and myself and as time went on noticed it was still empty so by the time Liz came I moved us to another shared table.  Glad we did.  One of the couples there lost their 13 year old son to cancer a few years ago.  They are on some level still grieving but trying to cope. I learned a lot about them after the event.

This morning early on I started the no bake cream cheese.  I got up around 5:30 and took out the cream cheese to let it come to room temp.  I went back to bed until 6 and then began the whole process just the way I did at Liz’s last two months ago.  Unfortunately it seems a little thick and there was a great deal left over.  I have it already freezing and didn’t put any extra chocolate chips on it and am currently eating the leftover filling.  The kitchen still needs to be cleaned. I did make sure to put things (ingredients) away as I was working but I still have to clean the beaters and the utensils.

Around 9:30  I called a couple of girls club members to see if they want rides to Dr. T’s house for the PITS and Dog treat activity.   They both ended up bailing.  They have too much to study for.  I found out last night while talking to Telka on the phone before the auction that they needed rides as their host Mom just had surgery and can’t really do anything.

Sky slept with me for most of last night and Tiger I am not so sure where she slept.  I know that I gave her too many treats yesterday because she rolfed them up on the sofa recliner this morning.

Well the kitchen is not getting cleaned by itself so I will take off for now.  I will see you all later....

Mom had a great time last night

Mom came home around 6 last night just as the sky grew dark. She told me it was a lot of fun watching the bidding for one door going for $3,000. She even had an opportunity to speak to the artist. Apparently the artist painted all the bridges from North Street down the Wepawaug River. It isn’t a big river and I don’t even know where it starts but I know it goes out to the Harbor by the Library.

She said the dress code varied from well dressed to short and short. She says the Former Miss Connecticut Heidy Voight who was the mistress of ceremony introduced her as the Milford Living treasure and not as chairperson of Bridges. I told her that will probably be the way she will be introduced for the rest of her life. She argued that her “term” as living treasure would be up soon.

Mom did tell me she saw a baby deer on the side of the road on New Haven Avenue. We both felt bad. That was about the time I told her I would have loved to see a deer in our back yard but it isn’t going to happen. Mom said it could happen some time.

While she was at the auction I spent the time working on the one pen pal file mixed in with surfing the net and watching TV. I also made some phone calls to Patrick and to Liz. Neither of them made fun of me which was nice. They all were glad I wasn’t hurt.

Around 5 I had the chicken and rice for dinner. I didn’t eat all of it because there was much more to it then I thought. I put the rest in a container and offered it to Mom but she said no that she would find something else. I think she ended up having a hot dog or two.

I am happy to report that I had only a miner headache and just a little bit of muscle pull but no major aches as I did Saturday. I did take the ibuprofen and before going to bed I put a little Ben Gay on the back of the leg.

As I suspected The Big E Blog posted an entry. It sounds like they had a good season entertainment wise but I am not sure how they did economically though. I hope they continue to blog for next year. I think we can expect the blog to start in July of 2009.

The rest of the night I worked on the pen pal files and updated my journal files as well. I took a shower because I was feeling a little sweaty. I tried to go to bed by 9. I didn’t fall asleep until way after that. I slept with the window open and it felt pretty good.

There was a little dicey moment on one of the lists. You see Rhonda G was sending out invitations to groups she apparently opened and one girl brought it to Liz Crasten’s list and asked Rhonda (not by name) to stop sending them. One of the moderators named Rebecca said she would handle it. Laura Lee also commented on it and I sent her an email saying that Sara (the complain tent) should have dealt with it privately. I also posted that all she had to do was delete them. I had been getting them but she wants participation in swaps and I am just not going to do that. I went back on line just before 10 and there was one more response another person was confirming Rhonda’s Identity.

Today I see Debra a little after 4. I will tell her about my accident on Wednesday. I will tell her how the week went and what the next week will bring.

Last Day of Vacation

Considering that today is my last day of vacation.   I am going to make sure things that were not done (housework mostly) are done...
