Ladies Guild Auction

Saturday night was the Ladies Guild auction at 6.  I ordered 2 trays of cookies from shop rite and I was able to pick them up earlier than needed.

I have been told ticket sales were not as hoped.  I wasn’t sure what to expect.  If there weren't a lot of people tonight, use them at the next meeting.  Luckily there seemed to be a lot of people to me. Including this one woman who knows Mama Roberta.

First she was late, second from the time she sat down to the time I left she bitched about one thing or another.  THere was not enough food, not enough servers, and then we talked about condos, and politics.  I even chatted with the guy next to her (not with ehr) and was telling him that I really need patience with her.  He understood I hope.

Since the auction itself was still going on and I wasn’t bidding on anything I left at 8.  I was so glad to leave.  I had told President Pam to use the remaining cookies to the meeting in a couple of weeks.

Sunday was bingo day at the nursing home.  I was looking forward to going.  It felt like it was a long time since I was there.  Between Recreation Bob and I not being there two Sundays and the other two were my days off.  THat feeling left fast.  Recreation Bob got pissed because I gave two bags of snacks to one person.  He started slamming things around and became obnoxious. I sent a text IM to my Friend Lynn who is also a volunteer there. She agreed he was stupid.  Personally I can’t wait for him to retire which I am guessing is soon.  At least I  won’t be there for another two weeks.

Just Popping in to Say Hi

Hey everyone!  Just had a few moments to pop in and say Hi.  Things are going well.  As you recall I was on vacation the last we spoke and I had a great time.  Caught up with things at home, had doctors appointments, and meetups.  THose were usually at night.  I also got to rest too.

I think the blood pressure is better.  THe latest appointments indicated that.  Next week I have follow ups with Cardiology, Nephrology and of course the Oncologist (blood doctor).

My car is almost finished being repaired and I suspect that I will have it back by next Tuesday.  I was given an Audi for the interim and it's beautiful but the bells and whistles are getting on my nerves.

This week Liz and Nelson will be moving into the condo. As early as tomorrow.  The rest of the furniture and movers are arriving tomorrow.  They have been spending the last several days doing odds and ends.  When the new furniture arrived Liz showed it to me and it's beautiful.

We talked about a number of things including whether or not I said anything to big brother.  My first reaction was; ITs her job not mine but by the end of the visit she basically said I could.  So I did.  THey were pleased but I am not telling her that.

We have a baptism for Lina Di next weekend.  It will be the first time I am meeting her since her birth.  I think we are  going separately because Liz and Nelson get over tired so they can leave on their own.

I have been invited to Allentown for thanksgiving again.  I will probably go down that Wednesday.  After my infusion.  I always enjoy going down there.

The rest of the family is fine.

THe Ladies Guild is going pretty well.  We have a general meeting tonight and an auction near the end of the month.  TIckets are pretty steep for me but I do want to go.

As I mentioned, I've been doing a lot with meetups.  We had a Movie night about two weeks ago and it was fun.  IT was the House with the clock in the wall with Jack Black.  We had pizza and stuff.  THen we had our weekly beach nights but those are coming to an end sooner then we had hoped.  THe park closes at sunset and it's about 6:30.  We then head to the diner.

Steph had to cancel the Wild Life auction she had planned for November.  THAt’s Okay.  Something tells me the woman she is doing this for is becoming difficult again.  On top of that Steph is just getting back to work after surgery on her knee.

We have a Cookie swap at Faith and Jerry’s home in December.  I definitely need to do that.  I also will have to cancel bingo for that day.

I know that the other two Meetup groups have a bunch of things but they always seem to be on days I have something else to do.  I am afraid they may just remove me if I don’t participate soon.

One of my old neighborhood neighbors is having a halloween party/open house in her new home this weekend and I am looking forward to that.  I am not dressing up though.

The Dolan Clan celebrated their youngest daughter’s wedding and I am so happy for them.

Sky is doing good.  He is healthy.  I have been giving him treats (basically to call him out of the spare room when I need to close it off).  He has been sitting behind the bookcase in the spare room as well as sitting on a pillow on the couch.

Hi All

When I started this I was sitting working on mailing claim forms from work and have another hour of it.  There seemed to be a lot for a Friday. Work has been going well lately.   I am keeping up with the mail flow a little better.  Some days the volume is light and some days not so much.

More departments are returning to the building in hybrid mode.  THe communications dept for the university moved into the second floor this past spring/winter.  We barely see them but we have been getting their mail a little more.

The Union across the campus has just voted a large amount of money (I am not against it) to support Local 33 in their continuing bid to be recognized as a union.  My area team (the people I update on activities) didn’t show up to the meeting (it was via zoom).  I am frustrated and disappointed.  THese were not the only things we focus on the larger scale.  There are a few fights brewing but I don’t have all the info to understand and to explain it.

We had our monthly birthday lunch yesterday. It was for AC and myself and we had pizza and pie.  It was great.  I will be starting my vacation on my birthday so I won’t be here for nine days.

They haven’t hired anyone for backup to me, AC and another team because they don’t want to come in and work (they would rather work at home).  I am not worrying about it.  I will make sure my desk will be cleaned off enough so that I can work it all when I get back.  I am still expected to work during the Christmas Recess in December.

Home life is good. I paid my condo taxes. really stumbled as far as finances but I'm back on track. We had our first in person meet and greet at the clubhouse last week and it went very well.   It was well attended.  However there is one night will not be seeking out she's a b****.

Just found out my next door neighbor unit 10 is leaving and moving to senior housing here in town.  I feel like a horrible neighbor.

We are now having monthly Association meetings but they are on Tuesday at 10 am.  2nd Tuesdays.  The first one was two hours.  The only time I will be able to attend is vacation days or when I retire.

When I started this some time so I was all set to tell you I was fine but that changed this past week.  My BP has been really high and a concern for a few doctors.  I almost didn't have my infusion this past week but in the end I was.  Long story short I am currently on BP medicine and there hasn't been a huge change yet.  I even had to get a BP kit and am still trying to figure even with instructions how to do it.

I'm also set for a follow up with pcp and a very overdue physical. It's been two years since I saw him.

I have reintroduced the cpap machine into my life.  I have had it since June.  It's been good.

The cats are doing well.  No longer under VCA shoreline. Care. but with the original vet and they have been great.  Weaning Tiger off predinilsone.  She seems good.  Still limping, the vet feels she will be like this until the end of life.  Which is well into the future.

They have been surprising me in their choices in where they sleep and cuddle.  They still are picky about meals.

I had a visit from Jim and Janis in June and was very pleased with my home.  They were up for Jim's college reunion.  They went up for dinner and came back the same day. Janis and I went to Trader Joe's while Jim slept in.

Janis tells me the closest one is in the Philadelphia area.  So she was very excited to go.

All their kids are doing well.  Emily is settling in San Diego.

Angel brothers family is doing well.  Niece Diane has been performing into the woods.  She also earned a telly award.

John and his family move back down to the lower 48.  He is officially retired from the US Army.

Rob remains elusive as usual.

SIL Ethel keeps herself busy.  I only know this through Facebook.

Been enjoying the Finding friends group.  This summer.  We had picnics. The beach meetups. Sadly, GC and her husband lost their 17 year old  sphynx cat unexpectedly.

We have many activities coming up throughout the fall season.

I haven't done anything with Funtime friends this summer.  I backed off a couple of activities that I really wanted to attend but ended up being too much.

My friend Joan wants me to take over her Milford walking  group.  I did let her know I was interested.

Not sure if she heard me.

I had a visit from mama Roberta early in June.  She stayed with another friend but we got together a few times.  She was also pleased with the condo.

She has been doing some traveling coast to coast and to Alaska.

This weekend heard from Dr T.  Shared some pictures of husband with fur babies.

I haven't been too active with the DTC this summer but campaign season ramping up.  We have out campaign headquarters near chips automotive about 4 miles from here.

The ladies guild is having a welcome dinner on September 13.  Some of our activities have been moved up.  Still the spiritual reader.

There is a plan to put a high end car dealership where the old Hooters was on Boston post road.  I am Not that excited over that prospect.

PF Chang's restaurant is moving into the mall soon.

Now I think I better check my BP and hit the sack.

Its been a while

It certainly has been awhile hasn’t it?  I hope your holidays have been excellent.  Mine so far have.  Thanksgiving I spent it with Jim and his new Bride in Allentown.  The ride down was not bad.   I left work just around 3 and made it to the Connecticut Border by 4.  The traffic was slow moving an basically because of the Sun setting before 4. The Drive to the bridge formerly known as Tappan Zee was good but slow. I had only one problem and I missed the exit I needed I happened to be talking to my sister at the time.  I took the next exit and I was right as rain.  I made it to J&J’s by 7:15.  After some visiting and meeting a couple of the cats I headed to bed.

Thanksgiving began with a breakfast for us and getting acquainted with the cats (who came into my room at night) we got ready for our late afternoon meal.  We had to pick up our catered meal from Wegman’s Grocery Store.  We had turkey (it was sliced), we had string beans, gravy and stuffing, and butternut squash with spinach, and garlic mashed potatoes and an assortment of pies.  Janis’s Daughter Laurie and her boyfriend joined us.  I can’t remember when they left but after they did my brother went to bring a meal to a friend of theirs

On Friday we had a quiet morning and then made our way to Bethlehem for the ChristKindlemarkt festival. It was held at the Bethlehem Stacks.  Although it wasn’t snowing it could have easily because it was so cold and windy.  WE were there for two hours looking at all the vendors and crafts.  I don’t usually go to these things but I figured when I am “In Rome you do what Rome does.  I just did window shopping while Jim bought a few things including a handmade wooden ornament in the shape of a cat for me.

This area was really cool.  Youngling beer donated a tall tree built out of kegs for the area.  There was a cultural arts theater, and gallery plus the local PBS station in this area.  Every time I looked at the stacks I couldn’t help but think of the scene in the Wiz….in the factory?  Oh and for all you casino lovers Wind Creek was down the street from this.

After the Festival we came home I think it was nearly 5 or 6 and we ordered pizza from Wegman’s (they have everything there).  WE finished our meal with left over pie.  The rest of the night we did our own thing.  J&J got rid of cable so they either get on their computer to watch things or meetings and I got on my computer for a while.  Did I do any writing? No.

I did get packed up for my trip home the next day and called it early night.

Saturday morning we had a semi early breakfast and then Janis had to go to work at Weight watchers.  After some sibling time I left for home.  Jim had given me a suggestion about where to get gas but as I was leaving I didn’t listen to the gps and ended up taking a wrong turn but still ended up on in the right direction an was on my way.  I stopped in Easton for gas.  The rest of the ride was fine.  It got busy by the time I got to Connecticut but I was home by 12:30.

When I arrived I found my stoop decorated.  Actually I was warned by Liz that my phantom decorator had been over and put a wood and apple wreath on the door and got rid of the plant and filled it with metal stand that has a gift wrapped on it.

When I came inside the cats didn’t move much from their spots.  Sky was under the blankets of my bed and Tiger was under the coffee table.  While I was away Liz watched them for me.  She kept me apprised of the days.  She did notice a few of my concerns with Tiger (will explain shortly) and she says they basically ignored her or didn’t come out of their hiding spots.

The rest of the weekend was quiet.  I did get some cards down from upstairs.  I haven’t done them yet but I will I hope this weekend.

Since I have been home I haven’t done much in the way of the holiday.  I did look up a couple of things for the holiday but I am hoping to get them next week.

I have been trying to focus on the budgets and it’s still a challenge.  I did apply and was approved for the balance transfer and began making payments on that.  My hope is that the budget will get under control by the New Year.

Some of my appliances are beginning to show their age.  The washing machine continues to make a noise.  The stove shuts itself off while I am cooking at times.

HOA Board elections are coming up.   They sent out notice and self-nomination bids for those who want to nominate themselves.  I was thinking about it but decided not yet.  Then we got word recently that the fall clean-up was halted because the guy who does it for us just disappeared and hasn’t been returning any communication.

A couple of the board members came to look for the outdoor spicket for the hoses outside.  Apparently there isn’t one in my unit.  This was the longest amount of time that President Frank and Carol were in my unit. J

We got more news on my brother’s latest cancer diagnosis. If I haven’t mentioned it yet it’s in the bladder slow growing.  It’s not fatal or metastases’ but will keep an eye on it.  He doesn’t seem worried about it so I won’t worry about it either.

His kids are okay.  All Busy and getting into the holiday.  I will hate to break it to them but I won’t be getting them presents this year.  MY advisor really feels A) they haven’t gotten me anything in a few years and neither has Jim.

Liz woke up to a cold this morning.  She has been keeping busy and had a fairly quiet holiday.  She watched the twins for me.  She said they were rude to her.  She did notice that Tiger is struggling more than before.

WE discussed the budget this past week and I told her how I have been doing and she asked if I used the CC and I answered her.  She suggested that I make the CC payments both at the beginning of the month and on Time.  The first one is questionable but I will try and  the second is a no brainer.

I was able to see a few of her kids this past weekend.  First it was Rich and then Adam and his son Josh stopped by and also my cousin DLH.

Both Liz and I agree that Tiger is struggling more and more.  A number of times I have watched her and she will walk and all of a sudden stop and then drop her head to the floor.  Its not like when she is sleeping and her head turns upside down.  I can see she struggles to get her footing.  Then she starts walking (with some limping).  She is starting to not finish her food when given to her but she does eat from Sky’s bowl.  She does get up on the bed sometimes with no problems.  She gets on the couch with no problem most time and then sits down.  She has been sitting under the side table by the recliner or behind the entertainment center.  I am not sensing she is dying yet or she needs to be put down.  I do have to order more meds this week so I will mention it to the vet when she calls to get an update.

Sky is his sweet self.  Sleeping with me most nights and cuddling up with Tiger. Sometimes they get feisty with each other but every time I leave the house I talk to him like he can understand that I need him to take care of his sister but at the same time don’t aggravate her.

Work is going fine.  Some days are busier than others.  We are still preparing to move to the third floor but I recently learned that now we won’t be moving until after the recess. That’s okay by me because I haven’t made time to get rid of stuff I don’t need anymore.

WE were informed last week from High up that parking for those who have to come to the campus will not have to pay until July 2022.  Right now I am relieved because I can use that money for something else.

New Covid regulations have come down as well.  Those who are working remotely have to follow the covid protocol.

End of semester and holiday parties are starting.  We have a couple next week and few retirements as well.  I was supposed to go to one on Monday but it was cancelled.

The ladies guild has one more activity or two going before the New Year comes in.  I believe the lawn angels (that the lead priest has been complaining about) fundraiser is going on now.  We have our last general meeting this coming Tuesday and I think I picked out a nice spiritual prayer.  I just have to bring some type of appetizers.

The DTC has been quiet for the last couple of weeks. Actually it looks like I missed a Holiday gathering alert for this Tuesday but I already have the ladies guild. We had to clean out the campaign Headquarters but I couldn’t do it.

My meetup groups have been busy.  Walk with buddy has been having mini fests, and toy drives.  The hiking group has had a few hikes on weekends but I have been either busy with The finding friends activities or taking care of the house.

I think I am over the latest Lupus flare up.  I got a call just before I took off for Allentown from the Dr. Letting me know that the recent blood tests indicated I was in the midst of a flare up.  That would explain the aches and pains and me being tired a lot.  I have been going to bed early and taking my meds fairly regularly.  I have my infusion next week.

I actually have a number of appointments next week and I think the week after but I am not sure.

Election Day 2021

Today is the day where we vote in or reelect people running our local municipalities At least here in Connecticut that’s what’s going here; I can’t begin to think of the other states. I tried to look it up but I don’t have the time to research it.   I got up early and headed to my new Poll location and got to meet some of the candidates from the 5th district.  I have seen the ones who are on the DTC at the zoom meetings and such but that’s it.  A few of the other Republicans I knew of from Awards night at the High Schools.  Anyway, going in was easy and voting wasn’t bad either.  I thought there would be an issue with my license because it still had my old address on the front and the new one on the back but there wasn’t.

Members of the DTC party will be meeting at   Bridge House in Devon.  It will also have zoom connections as well.  I wasn’t going to go there but made a commitment to attend so I will go after work.   This will make for a long day.

I actually didn’t do very much this year again for the election.  I volunteered for the sign making at the beginning of October, and the two of the three phone banks and attended the monthly DTC meetings via zoom.  I didn’t attend any Kick off parties, or fundraisers for the candidates, or the lit drops they usually have.  OF course I will be at the restaurant tonight.  I am pretty confident that our current Mayor will win his re-election bid.  I feel he has done very well.

Work has been busy for me.  WE have been doing lots of scanning, and progress with the new tasks of scanning appeals.  It’s not that hard actually.  When we have it I do it in the morning.  I was glad to be done with the back log of Attorney documents for scanning.  In the afternoon I have been focusing on the refund backlog (scanning).

I have also been helping out Mary the Admin assistant with odds and ends.  I have to make a few more mail tray tags for the mail room.  I think this all has to do with moving eventually to the third floor.

The ratified contract was to have been signed between the union and the University this week but I haven’t heard anything yet.  I am sure they will let us know.  They have been sending out emails about the ratification and what it entails.  Actually we didn’t have our committee meeting it was cancelled at the last minute.

We received an email reminding us to wear our masks while in the building as someone apparently reported that masks weren’t being warn.  We pretty much know who wasn’t wearing the mask but who reported us could have been anyone.  I went over in my head remembering if at any time I didn’t’ have my mask on and maybe once.

I was pleased to read that the property manager or board is going to contact the school board or city and ask them to move the bus stop that is at the end of our drive way.  I have been thinking I would say something but I am guessing others have.  When parents drop their kids off or are waiting for the bus to arrive they take up room.  It makes the driveway narrower than it is.  With winter approaching, it will make navigation a little tricky.

As expected we didn’t have trick or treaters in the complex.  I even checked with a few of the neighbors and they said no.

Because the weekend was a crazy one and I was exhausted the house cleaning was half done.  I got as far as the bathroom, and part of the kitchen and some vacuuming.  The rest will be done closer to the weekend.  I hope.

I need to bring in the patio furniture (the table can stay outside) soon.  Unfortunately there has been a large spider (dubbed Charlotte) and its babies making their home with the umbrella and I am willing to live and let live.   I thought the storm on Saturday would take care of it but I don’t think it did.  I am just going to have to put on my big girl persona and deal with it I guess.

Last week and the week before I got the insurance (not bills or statements) but the thing they send out before the bills that tell you what it covered and what not.  Well I am a little anxious (when am I not these days?) about this.  They are both due in December.  I am hoping to build up the savings a little more before then.    I have to worry about the taxes later.

I am doing okay with everything else.  Just wish I would not use the credit card as much as I have been lately.  It’s mostly for food (meals out).  I seem to be doing it a lot lately.  I just have to reign in a little more the next few weeks.

I had a great time last weekend at the pumpkin Spice and everything nice Brunch.  I got to see people I haven’t seen in a while one was a girl from the game meetup. I got to see Erica who has been working hard.  There were many others who were new or have been around for years but haven’t been to all the activities.  I think I read there were 32 of us.  We even got to meet Cyn’s aunt who has moved in with her.

I don’t know if I had told you that a couple of weeks ago this woman who came to the Wednesday meetup at the diner and it turned ugly.  After Cyn had vented that her aunt was lauding our former President’s accomplishments this woman named Sue lit into screaming and yelling at her.  Cyn tried to apologize and just was obnoxious. I am glad I wasn’t there.

When you attend a meetup for the first time you read the room.   You don’t cause arguments or problems or scene or whatever you want to call it.  The witch even had the nerve to follow Cyn outside to further the discussion.  A few days later the woman left the group.

I would fiercely defend this group to anyone who would say “there isn’t a lot done with this group” or would question the methods.  We basically give each other advice or listen to each other’s problems or even accomplishments.  We try not to talk politics if we can.

We are supposed to meet at the diner tomorrow night and I am not sure I can as I have prior commitments.  I don’t know if we have anything else planned for the group.  Well except for the card games on the Sundays.  I am pretty sure there will be more Friday night excursions and a few holiday things.

The Hiking and walking with Friends group out of Manchester have been having activities on the last couple of weekends.  The one thing I have been waiting for.  Places Like West Hartford, Case Mountain, Beldon Wild life Area, and Glastonbury CT (all different areas).  I may have to take a weekend go where they are.

Walking with Buddy has had some fundraising events that don’t necessarily do with the walking and I haven’t made them.  Again it’s on weekends and I usually do housekeeping stuff and or the Finding friend’s activities.

I talked with Mama Roberta last night.  We spoke for an hour.  We talked about everything, including the current atmosphere out there in the world.  I told her about the activities in the meetup and some of her meetups.  She has got plans for the next month to visit her daughter and son in law.

In a couple of weeks my friend Lisa is coming in from Greenwich to visit.  I can’t wait for this. I am still trying to figure out a menu for our afternoon.

The ladies Guild are meeting for the board meeting tomorrow night.  I still haven’t done much with the membership list.  I have to do it with Excel because I don’t have a PDF program.  I have been missing the last several meetings.  We have a fundraiser the annual Auction and dinner the weekend before Thanksgiving.  This meeting will be about other fundraisers, something like Angel things for Christmas time.

I did bingo last weekend and it went well.  Despite the fact they were having a possible outbreak testing.  I wasn’t sure if they were going to have bingo or not.  This annoyed me because even though I am vaccinated I still have family who are immune compromised (cousins, etc.).  I wish they would have called me to let me know.    It’s becoming evident that I need to either call out that weekend or come home early that Saturday after Thanksgiving.  I haven’t met the new Director.  She only works M-F.   I am getting the distinct impression the new boss is annoying Recreation Bob.

As I’m writing this Tiger is under the end table across from me.  She did sit with me on the couch for a little bit.  She has been eating her morning a different brand of canned food with no problem.  That means she is also taking her meds easily.  The turkey menu is in dark gravy instead of white.  It takes her longer to eat the kibble but I think she gets the medicine anyway.

She continues to surprise me daily when she hops up on to the bed some nights and sleep.  She doesn’t always stay but it’s still great.  I have also found that she will cuddle with Sky on the couch, under the coffee table and on the bed.  I just never took pictures.  Something I will be regretting I am sure.

Sky, continues to sleep everywhere, top of the recliner, couch, and of course next to me at night.  He would put his head on the pillow or my shoulder sometimes.  Several times including this evening I have found him under the blankets on the bed.  He also curls up under the bed for a while.  He eats his food and sometimes if I don’t catch him he eats tigers.

I was happy to discover that one of them had an accident once today.  Let’s hope they can keep it up longer.

I saw my sister and BIL yesterday before my session with Debra.  My reason for going over there was to drop off money to her.  AT one point she wanted to let me know that I shouldn’t have shared something with her about my brother (sort of health related but more like age related) so she nagged me about.  I was rather annoyed with her about it and as I was going to my car I mumble and said you are not my mother.  When Liz called me tonight on the way home I thanked her instead.  We talked more about it and then we moved on to a more pleasant topic.

Liz wanted me to know she went to the animal shelter to drop off some old sheets and blankets for the animals and she got to hold some really beautiful kittens.  She said she didn’t bring one home because she wanted to keep her husband more.

I have seen some sitings of my angel brother’s family on FB.  Niece is still up in Haddam performing, her brother John is living life in South Carolina, Rob? Yeah who knows?  SIL I am not sure.

Jim was working the polls yesterday.  I will find out soon how it went.  He has been disappointed with Politics both nationally and locally of late.

Well I need to get to the restaurant.  Have a great night.

Its happening again

The feeling I get when my schedule starts to get very busy and have so much to do.  The feeling of excitement and the anticipation of being busy to “OMG” I can’t do it.  As it there are a few things that I am going to have to miss like the Meet-up in North Haven that is a woman’s networking.  Well I will have to miss probably only one in September.  Then there will be the volunteering for campaigns and the union activities.

The weather has been lovely not too hot and not too cold.  Even though I did have to climb under the covers last night.  All though that’s supposed to change.  A Nor'easter that has changed course and whatever we were supposed to have is now going to be a light rain for the night.  Tomorrow is just clouds and back to sunshine on Sunday.  Next week will start off with rain and the sunshine.

Right now though I am heading to bed.  I got so tired and can’t keep my eyes open...

Exhausted

The weekend has barely started and I am already exhausted! Between work, the DTC Awards night, and today’s activities I am not willing to do too much more.  However, that’s not a great excuse.

So Friday was the last day of the work week.  In the morning I worked on mail for the first hour and half.  From then until the end of the day I did scanning.  Guardian Angel/PITS did the mail.  Actually she took care of certain elements and I have to finish the rest of it Monday.    The scanning was fine until the end of the day when the scanning machine decided it had enough of me and want to mess with me and mess with me good.   Luckily AC was there to help resolve and I was back in the scanning mode until it was time to clean up for the day.

WHen I got back to the desk I straighten up a little a task I had been neglecting most Friday’s but need to get back into for the week I am off in Florida.  I was going to walk with the girls but both MB and MA were running late and I didn’t want to be late for the DTC dinner so I had to bale on them.

I took off for the car and headed home.  When I got home started getting ready for the dinner.  As I was getting ready realized I didn’t have to be there until 6:30.    So I relaxed a little and dried the dress a couple more times to get the wrinkles out.   I actually started getting ready around 5:30 and then headed out to the atm for money not a lot but enough for the evening and the week.

I got to Costa Azzura restaurant where a small crowd was in the banquet hall.  I checked in and made my rounds to various tables and to the one I would be sitting at.  Peg K a long time Democrat and friend was at one table and I decided I would sit with her.  We chatted for a bit and then I took a look at the auction items and then made some more rounds.

Dinner was served at 7 Chairman Rich gave an opening welcome and then we ate.  The attendance was lower than in past years.  I heard it was 77 people.  Some people like to show up at the last minute and I think that’s rude because the restaurant needs to have a count.  THe wait staff left a lot to be desired but the food (of course) and the view from the window was great.  The restaurant looks out to Long Island sound and to the very popular Charles Island.  The water was calm and serene.  The festivities continued with honoring this year’s recipients of Democrat of the year, Lifetime Contribution, and of course Outstanding Community leadership.

The honoree for Democrat of the Year was CT State Comptroller Kevin Lembo and in his acceptance speech he thanked everyone for their support and mentioned Mom as one of his early supporters (and first to have a fundraiser here in the city for him).  I was touched.   I don’t know why I reacted with surprise and sadness when I saw the ad in the program book of Mom’s picture.  It has been in the book for the last three years.

We had the Auction after the awards presentation and I managed to win a $25 handmade necklace, I also put my name in the cupcake basket and luckily I didn’t win that one as I didn’t bring as much money that was really needed.  AFter the auction it was over.  It was after 9:30 when I left there.  I was glad to be going home.

Once I got home got ready for bed and tried to watch TV but went to bed instead.  Sky followed for a while and Tiger did her own thing.  I think I woke up a few times during the night but felt good once I got up this morning.

This morning was our regular Saturday morning routine including falling asleep on the couch until around 7:30.  I got up and spent the next hour and half doing odds and ends.    I ordered groceries for tomorrow, picked up here and there and, and fixed the flag staff out on the house, then showered and dressed to meet DR. T at the bank.

I left here around around 8:30 and was greeted by a rabbit who chose to hop away when I came out.  THe sun had yet to come out and I wasn’t sure it would.  DR. T arrived after 9 and was annoyed as her exchange student was not cooperating and hasn’t been respectful (in listening to rules, and requests) and being just plain uncooperative.  Once we got started Dr. T did some banking for the club and then we had to get my name on the account so that we could still do the finances and distribution and contributions to various charities etc.  WEll it was a bust as they couldn’t find the file.  So we left and we each went home.

WHile I was waiting for Dr. T I ended up talking to this guy who had these two beautiful dogs (think SHaggy Dog but really smaller) and we had a great time talking about pets.  I never saw this guy before but it was great talking about our pets and i kept thinking if Liz ever saw this she would worry.  Well not more than five minutes passed and i hear the sound of a horn and my sister driving by waving at me.  She was thrilled at the smile I gave (she would tell me later by phone when I called).
By the time I got home the sun was out and the temperatures had gotten into the 70’s.  There was a beautiful breeze and absolutely beautiful The sky had beautiful clouds.  I relaxed and had something to eat before the next event.

The next event was the Dedication of the new Woodmont Borough Hall. It’s new home is the old Volunteer fire house here in the borough.  It will now be a center of governing and community activities here in Woodmont.  There was music, food, and stories of the borough that I had long forgotten or didn’t know.  It was a time of reconnecting with people i knew and getting to know others.  Also spending time with people I did know (such as the Mayor who brought a proclamation from the city).  It made me want to learn more of this community (even though I have lived here all my life).  A fellow Citizen wrote a book (Post card type of Woodmont of all the historical places (restaurants, inns, shops etc) that made Woodmont the “hot spot of milford in the early 20th century.  I was so excited to share the info with Liz when I called her today.

My siblings have been doing their own thing.  J went to Worcester Ma for Assumption College Reunion Weekend where he has been enjoying his 45th Class reunion.  According to his last text this afternoon he has been having “fun”.  I told him if he needed to make a pit stop on the way home he could stop here.  I don’t know if he will take me up on that offer.

It may be an opportunity to get him to open up about Nephew J’s graduation situation.  I don’t want to keep jumping to conclusions about.  Yes I realize it isn’t my business really but I am concerned.

As I mentioned I saw Liz in town this morning and she was running errands before she spent time in her garden.  I was hoping to stop and see her on the way home from the bank but at that point she wasn’t home yet.

Tomorrow she and N are going to one of the newest grand baby christening.  Its supposed to be a small affair and hopefully it won’t make Nelson overtired.  The doctors say he is coming along in the healing process but not to over do it.  Wednesday is her birthday and I want to give her the necklace I won in the auction.  I am also going to show her the picture of Mom they have in the program.

Tomorrow will be fairly busy as well.  I will be waiting for the grocery delivery and then run some errands and then do bingo.  My hope is to start packing for my trip to Florida next week.  I have a packing list and I am thinking of what I am going to wear and get that all ready but at the same time i still have a few things to do and don’t want to lock up the clothes and stuff until Friday.

I did hear from Deb in Florida.  SHe was in the middle of shopping and wanted to know what I would like for breakfast, and to drink and of course snacks.  SHe also told me we will take a trip to Naples and do some window shopping on the saturday before I leave.

Well I think I am going to do a few Crossword puzzles before going to bed so I will see you later..;)

My name is pokey

I have been awake since 5:30 and didn’t get out of bed until 8 (officially) and I just got out of the shower and need to get ready for Bingo.  After I finish with Bingo I am hoping to come home and do some chores and get more cards done and Thank you notes.

I have been in contact with Nancy we are meeting on Sunday December 21, 2014
to discuss instructions and to get Preston to remember me.

Bingo went well.  We had seventeen residents playing and as I mentioned Joanne was there as well.  Natalie came later on.  She must have had a cooking activity to do in the afternoon.  AFter bingo I called Liz but they were not home so I headed home too.

Before going I stopped at the card shop and got a couple more cards and some instant scratch lotteries for gifts.  I had to get another nephew card because I think i misplaced one.  So as soon as the light goes on I will take care of those.

When I got home Liz called and we chatted for a bit and I had lunch.  Liz was having a busy weekend but she is tired and still recovering from her surgery this week.   She was going to the theater this afternoon.  I am going to see her after my appointment tomorrow.

AFter we got off the phone I managed to get the kitchen and the floor in the living room vacuumed and washed.  I think it looks good and it really didn’t take a lot of time but it did tire me out.  I think I was done by 2 or three.  That’s when I said I am done.

I folded some clothes and had dinner and then after that came upstairs.  I have been watching TV and must have dozed at one point because the light was on when I woke up again.

I have some stuff I think I should do before too long...

Have a great night...

Dear Friends

December 16, 2013

Dear Friends:

It is has been a morning.  My intention was to get up and out of the house by 7.  I wasn’t as successful.  I ended up staying in bed a little longer than I should have and I did iron but I didn't leave until way after 7.  I managed to get to the office way after 8.  TRaffic was bottled up by the garage as usual.

I got to work and helped Mama Joanie with something and that got to work.  Started on the postage stuff from friday and then worked my way to the lockbox that came a short time later.  The Post office mail came but it was heavy so I spent most of the day on that and will have to finish the lockbox tomorrow.

I heard from my friend John B he looked into the situation with the plowing and said the construction company is responsible to get the driveways and street cleared until the project is done.  They were also told to get a machine in here to get it done until the winter and project is done.  They are supposed to come tonight.

I am relieved that I actually got to the bank today to pay for this Thursday’s luncheon.  I was tempted to put it off until tomorrow but it is supposed to snow tomorrow and I would rather not go out into it if I don’t have to.   If it is really bad I am not going to work either.  Well I will have to see what its like tomorrow.

Here is my daily 30-days of thankful:      I am thankful for the volunteer organizations I belong to.  At one time I belonged to three Volunteer Organizations.  One was  an organization that not only provided opportunities to have affordable housing  to towns based on income it also allowed members to be involved from the ground up.  They were taught the funding, the building, all of it.  I was a part of that as well.  It was for low to mid income.  We nearly almost had one here but it never came to fruition because of sites and opposition.  We had the funding but it just never worked out.  The other two Volunteer Organizations I am still a member of.

One is the  GFWC Milford YOung Woman’s club. and our local Town committee (Democratic).  IN 1995 a woman approached me asking if I would be interested in joining a women's Volunteer organization that was starting up in town.  We would be a part of a state Organization as well as International Organization .  Both  a long tradition of Women’s Volunteering and community SErvice.   WE have done a lot for the city of Milford, and I have made a lot of friends and met people with the same goals in life as we have.

Well  I have some stuff to do so I am going to close out...

Last Day of Vacation

Considering that today is my last day of vacation.   I am going to make sure things that were not done (housework mostly) are done...
