What a Day

I got to the nursing home a little after 9:15. I made my obligatory stop to D&D and to the picket line to say hi. As I was heading to the door one of the girls from the girls club and her mother were walking to meet me. Inside Madison and her Mom were waiting inside. I introduced them all to Shelly and to Julia. I explained the lay of the land and eventually we started getting people. A few of the “natives” were a little bit restless when one who was unable to hear kept asking for the numbers. The other one whom I call Phyllis Diller was obnoxious.

I went to the 11:30 mass and manage to only miss a few minutes of it. After church I went to Sis and BIL’s. I helped with a few things and we talked. BIL’s kids started coming by 1. Chris and the kids were an hour late. BIL and his family weren’t appreciative of that. I don’t know if I would be but as much as I love them they have some irritating traits as well. I played with the neighborhood kids and then had food. I stayed until 2:30.

I was home a short time later. M&T were there and pretty much everything was in order. They relaxed for a short time. Just as people began to arrive for the event Mom had to change her outfit after a can of soda fell out of the refrigerator and broke open and all over her and the wall behind her.

We had about thirty to thirty-five people here and including some of the candidates. Sadly Congressman Larson of Hartford lost his mother and so most of our guests of honor had to back out. Congresswoman DeLauro came for about half an hour. It was wonderful to see her. The Lt Governor Nancy Wyman, Senator Dick Blumenthal, Chris Murphy Candidate for Congress all could not make it. Senator Gayle Slosberg, State Rep Paul Davis, James Maroney Candidate for State Rep 119 all attended and was very good. Mayor Ben Blake and of course several of my fellow 4th District members came.

Now for the criticism part-this one woman who I just met for the first time and was the ex-wife of the professor who ran Mom’s literary club complained that she didn’t know the candidates and that they should wear name tags. First of all if you don’t know how it is done then you need to wait and see how things unfold (most of them introduce themselves).

When my neighbor Sylvia came with the dish for the buffet she was slightly hurt that we started eating earlier. “But she said you were going to eat at 5”. So what?

All in all it went well despite the flubs of a few. Liz and Nell came at one point and were helping clean up. They did socialize. OF course he was rushing Liz out while she was talking. I playfully told him to knock it off.

We were starting to clean up as much as possible and had to wait for the second round tomorrow.

We discovered today that one of Woodmont’s Historical Synagogues burnt to the ground yesterday. It was due to Electrical wires and not any Hate crime. You can find the article here.

I am going to go to bed. I want to be up early and out early for work.

Considering that today is my last day of vacation.   I am going to make sure things that were not done (housework mostly) are done...
